balance bike for tall girl?

DD is 3.5 and is in the 95% for height. At her 3-yr appt she was 42" and she is in 4T clothes right now. Zulily is having a great sale on wooden balance bikes right now and I think she'd love that to learn how to ride a bike and balance but I'm afraid she might outgrow it really soon because she is so tall. It says the seat moves up to 17.5" and according to most websites 4T pants have an inseam of 16 3/4".

Anybody have a balance bike for their LO? Would you buy it?

Re: balance bike for tall girl?

  • They're actually supposed to be short so that you can peddle with your feet, pull your feet up, learn to glide and balance, but be able to put your feet down quickly if you start to fall.  They're not supposed to fit like a regular bike at all.  I think the one you described will be fine.

  • DS has a strider that he got at 3 and we have already had to raise the seat 3 or 4 times since he got it, so i would be worried that she would run out of room on that bike rather quickly. I don't know the seat height for the strider, but they have videos of 5 year olds riding them, so it might be higher than 17.5 in. I definitely recommend it. DS was starting to coast with feet up only a week after he got it.

  • We have a KaZam and it's really cool!!  Don't think I'd do a wooden one, but that's mostly because it doesnt seem as comfy.
