waking up after 45 min

So this happens ALL the time at naps.  Usually once a day I am successful in getting her back to sleep for at least another 45 minutes.  I am hoping this 45 min wake disappears soon.  The problem is the 45 min wake has started at night now.  She goes down after a 6 oz bottle at 8pm and she is out like a light.  She doesn't move an inch until that 45 min wake and then she thinks she is up from a nap.  Well, it usually takes 3 to 5 paci runs and some shhing until she goes back down and then she is out for the night.  It is getting harder each night though.  Is anyone else going through this.

  • Is she fully waking up or just starting to fuss. At night, see if you can leave her until she's really crying. It might be that she's looking for you to come in.

  • She usually starts by tossing her head back and forth and will then start crying so we go up and put the paci in.  Sometimes that is enough but other times its not and then she is wide eyed and ready to come out of her crib.  She will smile at me or DH as soon as she sees us.  I told DH to just let her cry for a couple of minutes and then we can go in and pat and shhh her.  Usually that works after 1 or 2 times, but by the time she is back asleep it's been 30 minutes.  It never happens if she gets up in the middle of the night though...weird

I could have written these exact posts. DS is always up at 45 minutes. Sometimes even 35 and rarely does he go back down again. But, I have noticed recently he'll sometimes go for an hour or more. Usually his afternoon naps only, though. I read that day sleep "develops" after night sleeping, so I'm hoping eventually his naps will get better...

  • I'm definitley not a baby sleep expert by any means, but is it possible she's going to bed too early? My DD does the same thing, we've gotten a routine down so that she's in bed by 10, but anytime I try to put her down earlier, even if she seems sound asleep, she'll wake back up. Then it's the whole "go back to sleep" cycle. That's more exhausting than letting her go later. When she goes to bed a little later, she stays asleep.

  • My LO does the same exact thing for naps (however, he usually doesn't go back to sleep after- he has been a 45 min. napper for quite some time now), and after the first time we put him down for the night.

I don't have any advice. I am use to it, so I accept it and go with it. We still co-sleep, so once I go to bed around 10pm, he usually doesn't wake up until 2-3am for his night feeding.

She is definitely ready for bed and she will do it even if I put her down at 9pm.  Last night she slept from 8pm-7:15am minus that 30 minute bump around 9pm.

  • Have you tried naps on her stomach?  (Supervised if pre-roll)  Works like a charm for my otherwise 45-minute napper.
