Did anyone not lay down in the bed to deliver and still tear? I keep reading that one of the best ways to prevent tearing is to deliver in a position other than laying down on your back. But are you able to do that if you have an epidural? I want an epi, but I also want to not tear. Can I have it both?
Re: Birth Positions
Oh, see I could with dd. The only thing the epi did for me was allow me to fall asleep inbetween contractions from 5-10 cm. But it didn't effect my legs at all.
I think once you get an epi you are confined to the bed as well. That is what I have been told because everyone reacts differently even from birth to birth. I'm pretty sure if you want to use different methods of birthing that you have to go certain med free but I would ask your OB for more info.

Well, I asked my dr about the tearing today at my appt. He said they would try to help prevent it with stretching as I am pushing. He also said that he thinks that scar tissue is stronger, so while I could tear, the previous tears shouldn't be paving the way for easy tearing. He did say this baby will be quite a bit bigger than dd, but that as a second birth anyway, I am less likely to tear.
Even though I could still feel alot with my epi when I was delivering, having that couple hours of rest where I was in and out of it from 5-10 cm was so nice. So I guess I will just do a wait and see how I feel during this labor. I know I could not get an epi and still tear, but it seems like all the articles I read say that things to do to prevent tearing include pushing not on your back and to not get an epi.
