Unpopular Opinion Thursday

I think cell phones are evil.. I haven't had one in nearly 6 years.. they've changed so much.. they are starting to creep me out..  https://www.pcworld.com/article/244859/some_malls_tracking_shoppers_through_their_cell_phones_this_holiday_season.html

This is one of the reasons

Watching people constantly text.. My MIL and SIl were texting each other in the car on the ride to the sprinkle.. (which i thought was rude i mean can't they talk instead of texting each other..)

I've done a previous poll and yes I think I'm the only bumpie without a cell

Re: Unpopular Opinion Thursday

  • It really bothers me that the people who complain about drama the most are the ones who seem to always be starting it.  I am also annoyed by women who are mothers thinking that they are a sexy b**** who are going to get modeling careers and post half naked pictures of themselves on FB.

I sort of feel this way about television. We hav e one, but don't have cable. Even the shows we can watch are so trashy most of the time. When I'm with friends, I feel like they are constantly talking about tv shows and I feel out of the loop. I probably watch less than an hour a week...

While I do own a cell phone, I'm inclined to agree with you. I have an unreliable vehicle so I'm occasionally thankful for it but overall I'd much rather get a regular old land line and throw the cell phone away. Maybe someday I'll be able to just keep the cell phone shut off in my car for emergencies. That would make me so happy. :)

  • I cannot stand the way it seems all baby clothes now say totally cheeseball things - sleepers, outfits, shirts....they almost all have at least little tags that say things like "Daddy's Little Hero" or "Mommy's Angel" or "Future Sports Superstar".

Do we seriously need to label our children with our hopes and dreams??  It was not like this when I had my first.  It seems to just keep getting worse, and now it's ridiculous.

My family is a Foreign Service family. Families like mine are posted in every corner of the globe. We live our lives away from family, friends and the conviences and comforts of home. We often live and work in dangerous places among those that misunderstand our intentions and purposes. Sometimes members of our ranks sacrifice our lives to further diplomacy.  Please remember that we serve too. And I'm always open to questions.

  • Although it as really slowed down - I am not interested in all of the AH! I am behind on Christmas/shopping/decorating etc, etc. How can Christmas be special or magical if we let ourselves get wigged out about it starting in November??? I declare no stress about Christmas until at least ten days beforehand!

  • I get really annoyed by the "keep Christ in Christmas" people.  Not everyone is Christian or celebrates Christmas in a religious way.  Get over yourselves and recognize that Christmas isn't only a religious holiday, it's secular too.

Along the same lines, I get even MORE annoyed with people (especially on FB) who spout off that we should only say Merry Christmas instead of Happy Holidays.  I'm sorry that I like to include people who celebrate Hanukkah and other holidays during this time of year.  I guess I'm not into excluding people and making the holidays only about my personal religious beliefs.

  • While it is a very popular practice, I think not returning your shopping cart to the store or the cart collector in the lot is rude and lazy. Parking your cart between cars is not the way to end your shopping trip.  We are all juggling packages, kids and time constraints, but it just takes a moment to be considerate to other shoppers (and their cars!).

I agree, however, I haven't returned a cart or two on occasion.  Mainly because no cart collectors were anywhere close... or they didn't have them at all!  I think in situations like that it the store's problem, not mine!

I agree!  I make it a point to always part near the cart corral because I know I will have multiple bags plus a 2 year old to get in the car.  I will gladly sacrifice a close spot for one of convenience.  If there are no car corrals, I take the extra time to walk it back to the store.  I get hella pissed when I see carts out in the open.  A gust of wind is all that's needed to send that ramming into someone else's car.

    1)  Enough with the "I Passed the Glucose Test" posts.  I get it, you've got an awesome pancreas and will be spared the 2-3 months of glucose monitoring and carb-counting. I've got the full-time betes and will do these things everyday for the rest of my life. Quit rubbing it in.

    2)  Given the history of the board, anytime we have a newbie introduce themselves I assume they are a troll and largely ignore them.

    3)  If I let someone in front of me while driving and they don't give the courtesy wave, I strongly consider ramming my car right up their tailpipe....eh...I've got insurance.

If you can't locate a cart collector you could probably walk the cart back into the store.  They most likely keep a few on hand inside as well.

    Yes

If I got upset every time someone asked me how many days I have left, I'd be committed.  I get it a lot.  Who cares.  I carry my babies big.  I'm healthy, DS is healthy, I'm not gaining much weight at all....it's just how my body reacts to pregnancy.

(I've had 3 coworkers in the last 2 days ask me about having a new baby in the house for Christmas.  Nope, not quite....)

There's this thing in the world that sucks, and it's called "other people's values." Everyone has lived their own separate lives, having their own separate experiences and we've all learned different things. We can't always agree with each other and we can't change each other.

Plus, New Years is a holiday ? so even if you are Christian, we wouldn't you want to include both holidays in your wishes to others?. My FIL sends out one of those snotty Merry Christmas emails each year, and I want to beat him up.

  • I'm not a big fan of keep the "keep christ in christmas" deal either..

mainly it's cause christmas has sooo little to do with Christ these days anyways..

i mean what does santa, christmas trees, stockings, and giving presents have to do with jesus anyways?

I'm not christian or catholic.. I'd say more agnostic/atheist.. I still say Merry Christmas.. just cause thats what I'm use too..

I'm sorry if you celebrate something else.. But I wouldn't be offended if someone wished me a happy hannukah .. I'd say thank you and wish you the same

There's a difference between slipping up and saying "Merry Christmas" and doing it on purpose to exclude the other holidays. And the difference is usually rather obvious. Especially on FB, because there's usually some super snotty comment right before it.

To play devil's advocate, I'm pretty sure this is why they say "Keep the Christ in Christmas" in the first place.

I make a conscious effort to wish others "Happy Holidays" and this extends to our Holiday cards, Holiday parties, etc.  But I think it's instinctual for some to say "Merry Christmas."  Even "Happy Holidays" could be perceived as rude if you say it to a Jehovah's Witness.

To me, warm wishes are warm wishes, no matter what shape they take.

  • 1. first let me agree with PP who is against cell phones, I have one but according to everyone it is a dinosaur. I dont have the internet, pictures or data...just calls and texts. I dont want/need a cell phone with the internet and will not get one, as then my work can follow me more than now. I carry 2 cell phones, personal and work...and I hate them both. But this goes with all technology, I dont have an ipod, ipad or even a mp3 player, and dont have the urge to buy one

    2. I have to take my tree down the day after Christmas and dont understand why people leave it up until New Years, same with the lights on the house. I also hate how people become oddly religious during Christmas time, while the rest of the year they dont say anything about religion.

    3. I couldnt care less if Kim got a divorce after 72 days, Kourtney is pregnant or the Duggars are having their 20th child. Let them live their lives how they want to live them.

To me, warm wishes are warm wishes, no matter what shape they take.

In my experience, the same people making a big deal about keeping Christ is Christmas are also the ones who are waiting in line for Black Friday and buying into the entire consumer side of the holiday. I have relatives and acquaintances like that, and it drives me crazy because they so clearly DON'T celebrate the true meaning of Christmas. Don't get me wrong, I couldn't care less about how people celebrate or what the holiday means to them, but don't make a big day about the religious side of it when you don't bother to go to church and rack up credit card debt to buy your kids more crap then they could ever possibly use.

Although I do think it's ridiculous when people get offended if someone wishes them a Merry Christmas. I agree with PP, I wouldn't be offended if someone wished me a Happy Hannukah. I try to say Happy Holidays, but people should be able to say whatever they want (as long as it's not in a mean spirited way).

Definitely this!  Yes, the questions will come, every day... and they're annoying, but there's not much I can do to stop them.  Just smile, nod, and answer as politely as I can.  What bugs me about getting asked all the time is the people asking are complete strangers, and they don't seem to realize that EVERY complete stranger I've seen today has already asked me all these things!  I should get a pin that says: "Due Feb. 3, 2012 with my first, its a boy, and yes, I'm very excited".  And back to the belly rubbing: if you don't know me, don't touch me!  I don't go up to people and touch them for any reason unless I know them.

  • I don't care if you say happy holidays or merry Christmas. But I am a christian and Christmas is about the birth of Christ. Just b/c America waters down everything it doesn't change the meaning. Now if someone else wants to celebrate with a plastic Santa or whatever else I couldn't give a rip. But I'm not ashamed for my belief and I won't hide it to be politically correct.

  • I understand how a lot of women can have issues with their MILs, but I absolutely refuse to open any thread that looks like the poster is complaining about her MIL. My MIL passed away from cancer last February (3 months before I became pregnant with her first grandchild - she was only 45). I'm kind of jealous that you all have MILs to be frustrated with in the first place. It's one of those "don't take her for granted because you never know what could happen" kind of things. I read one, and I pictured my MIL and myself in the same argument, and I cried. Like, ugly face sobbed, for about 40 minutes. My little Anna will never get to meet or experience the love of her grandmother Sad

This! Absolutely. Everything on them just sounds so incredibly dumb, I can't ever imagine putting my child in them. They are so common it's getting hard to avoid. SO's mom keeps buying things like this for us even though I have continuously told her we are not interested in any clothing with sayings on them.
