EDIE'S CAST IS OFF!
She freaked out when they peeled it off of her. Like it hurt really bad. There was a sore on the top of her foot that just looked like it was from friction. My mother in law said her ankle had one too, but I didn't see it. My mother in law went with her to x-ray (I couldn't go because I'm pregnant), and was waiting in the hall. She came back in the room and told me to look at her ankle. OMG, it was gross. Like, not OK. It wasn't open, but it was indented and looked puss-y.
She came back from x-ray and the pediatrician (who is trained in sports medicine, so that's awesome) saw us. She was concerned because E's foot was really red and swollen. She stepped out for a while because she noticed that since E was crying, she was red and asked if her skin turned pink like that when she got upset, which it does (the pedi was a redhead, so I bet it happens to her too).
While she was gone, E was standing up putting weight on her legS while playing with the activity table in the room. When she came back, she was in a better mood and some swelling had gone down.
She reviewed the x-rays (and showed me) and said the fracture looked totally healed! She said there was no reason to put a cast back on her and risk a skin infection. She gave her an antibiotic and gave me some instructions as to what to look for as far as worsening infection and what to do in case it happened.
My MIL has her now, because I came back to work. She called and said that E's foot is white as snow and back to her normal chubbiness! She isn't crawling correctly yet. She's still dragging her foot behind her as she did when she had her cast. But the doc said not to expect her to walk for a week, so we're not worried.
I feel really good because I think we got the right care. I worked really hard for my baby to get the right diagnosis and treatment and I think she got it!
Re: (NABR) The cast is off!
I'm so happy that she's all healed! You're a great mommy for taking care of everything so well...

When I saw it, I wanted to cry. And then to think that they were probably going to put a cast back on it was just so heartbreaking to me. I felt like I was going to have to choose between my kid risking a BAD infection or having a un-healed bone. I would've picked the un-healed bone and no cast to clear up the infection. But I'm so glad I didn't have to pick!
My MIL is so awesome. I had a lot of doubts about her doing our daycare before E was born. But it really turned out to be an amazing situation!
