1st Trimester

Are you watching what you eat?

.. Or just eating whatever will stay down right now?

Someone asked me today if I was eating only good foods since I became pregnant. I said well I am trying to make healthier food choices, but really its whatever my stomach will keep down at the moment.

What about the rest of you?

Re: Are you watching what you eat?

  • Whatever sounds appealing right now. I am a pretty decent eater normally & only gained 20lbs with DS so I'm careful but eat everything in moderation.

  • I have a very small appetite these days- not because I am puking, but because I want to. :-)

With that said- I am counting calories- with the help of a nutritionist to make sure I don't gain an unhealthy amount of food. These days I am lucky if I reach her minimum suggested amount of calories.

I tend to eat toast w/ banana and peanut butter in the morning, a yogurt or cheese stick in the snack time- a half sandwich, soup and crackers, or left overs from dinner for lunch and then a small portion of whatever dinner is- I am doing this all while trying to be aware of my portions. I gained too much with my daugther, it took 2 years to get off and I am determined to be healthier this time around..

So I guess the short answer is yes- I am trying to be very aware.

    Sorry for the long post!

  • These days the definition of "good food" is whatever will stay down. So yes! I'm eating great!

I kinda wanna smack people that ask me if I'm being healthy. I don't know what part of vomiting several times a day leaves room for being a health nut so I'll leave it to others to figure out.

Agreed! It was an annoying question this woman asked me..

I watch what I'm eating. As I am eating it. To make sure the dog doesn't try to take it from me. Beyond that, it is whatever sounds good. So far my sounds good is apple sauce and salad and string cheese for the day. Not the home-made biscotti I made, or the pumpkin ice cream that is going on 3 or 4 weeks in my freezer UNOPENED.

haha this sounds just like my dog. She will straight grab something from my hand or the plate and take off running with it.

  • I haven't always been the healthiest eater, so I'm definitely eating more fruits and veggies during the day. But I still sneak my McNuggets in once in a while ;-)

  • I am trying, but constantly craving comfort food.

  • I am trying, but yes, I am definitely not eating what I should be eating.  A pretty big win for me today was actually being able to eat the side salad that came with my sandwich at lunch.  For some reason carbs and protein seem easier to eat than fruits, veggies and dairy right now. :-/  So I am eating what wills tay down and calm my stomach, and trying to get my greens when I can manage.

  • Thankfully, I'm not having any ms, so I'm eating very carefully. Trying for a myriad of veggies, lots of greens, lean protein, a little fruit, and all organic. we always eat pretty well, and mostly organic, but I've definitely upped my game.

  • Yes, I am trying to eat healthier. Im not the most UNhealthy person, but all I have been craving is crappy food. Had chicken mcnuggets for lunch today. Whoops...
  • I want to try and eat healthy, but nothing sounds good to me.  I am not puking, yet... but I have no interest in food.  I don't think I was able to stomach the idea of lunch until 3 oclock.
  • I'm normally a big junk food person, but since about half way through week 5, sweets sound aweful. I'm eating healthier food I guess but honestly, it's not intentional.  It's just what my stomach will take.  I eat LOTS of cracker, apple sauce, pudding, chicken noodle soup, and can keep down the occasional grilled cheese sandwich.

  • For me, I usually eat pretty decently, but I wasn't drinking the right things. I would drink too much pop or not drink enough to stay hydrated, so that has been my main battle. I stopped drinking pop altogether, and I have been forcing myself to drink a lot more water throughout the day.

We are also eating out less and trying to eat foods that are good for the baby

  • I've been very lucky in that i haven't had any morning sickness (*knock on wood*, though my mom says that she didn't have any with 2/3 of us). But, i have had constipation issues, so I've been going veggie-crazy. I've had a few taste changes, but nothing major, so i'm increasing the veg and trying to decrease the fried food / baked goods. And generally trying to count calories. I'm already a bit overweight, so i'm trying to stick to 2000cal/day.
  • Whatever sounds good to me, I'll eat.  If that's greasy fast food or tons of carbs, I'm doing it.  It got so bad my first pregnancy, I just ate whatever would be the least disgusting coming back up, plus I lost 12 lbs in the first tri. Baby came out perfect and healthy and I was able to make up for it in the 2nd and 3rd trimesters.  The thought of veggies, salads, or even grilled chicken makes me want to puke.
