How to entertain an alert 2.5 month old?

I could use some tips on how to entertain my 2.5 month old. He is very alert, I sing and interact with him, then we do some time in the jungle gym. He obviously has a short attention span so I'd like some other tips.

Other wise he gets frustrated and crys ALOT. What else can I do with him? I'm running out of ideas.

  • give him a paci and have him take a nap?

we talk, make faces, playmat, show her the room. she also does well out at the store/mall.

  • We go for walks or go to the store.  We also have a play mat for her and bouncy seats (which have toys that arch over the top as well as a mirror), she loves to lay on it and I jiggle the toys, she loves to be in her bouncy seat while I am working in the kitchen,  She also really like it when we walk around the house and look at things (say hi to the pets, looks in the bathroom mirror).  I have also found she likes (for a short period of time) being in her crib watching her mobile (it has lights and music)...

How long has he been awake for when he's like this?  When DD goes from having fun to melting down it's usually because she's exhausted, not bored.

  • My LO loves to go to the grocery store.  I guess it's all the colors?  She looks around so curiously while we're there and then cries when we get home.  It's kind of funny.

  • Sometimes my LO doesn't want to interact and gets fussy when I try to do so. During those times I try to take him outside if the weather permits (even in the cold, I just bundle him up). He LOVES the outdoors and it usually calms his worst "fits." He loves looking at everything and I sing to him while we're out there. He recognizes the song and it can make him stop crying even while we're inside now.

  • I agree--fussy almost always means diaper change time and/or nap time around here.  She's usually up for about an hour to 1 1/2 hours between naps and a lot of that time is taken up nursing, so we don't have a whole lot of alert play time yet. But, to entertain our 9 1/2 week old when she's alert I'm using the play mat (she likes to kick the toys with her feet), bouncy chair, time in the carrier, go for walks, sing and snuggle, tummy time, etc.  I also try to read to her but she doesn't much like that yet, so if she's even remotely fussy I forget about it.
  • my little boy is very alert and my husband and i spend so much of our days entertaining him, too!  Taking him for walks give us a huge break and really helps him sleep better.  So we walk outside or at the mall.  Anywhere to give him a change of scenery and keep his senses stimulated.  Good luck!
