If you've PT'd a boy...

did you use targets in the potty to remind him to aim? And if so, what? (I'd rather not put food in there - cheerios or something - because I don't want any kind of food/bathroom correlation.)

Baz has discovered that when he twists his hips, the stream moves. Thankfully, our bathroom is tiled, but still: YUCK!

TIA!

  • We trained sitting down. He now knows how to stand and do it and never had a problem with aim, but for the most part at home he still sits.

    Same here

  • I've heard the same about training to sit for now and they will learn to stand later.  DS sits and pees - but knows how to stand, but standing = mess.

Us too.  He prefers to stand now for most pee-only visits and I think he sometimes stands at school.  Height wise he has to concentrate just to make sure he's just over the rim of the toilet when standing (no stool) so thankfully, he doesn't really have room to mess around.  At least not yet!

ditto. He didn't start standing until after 3 years old and when he was tall enough to get his weenie above the rim.

  • DS pees sitting down and pushes his penis further into the toilette.

  • I trained Alex on the regular toilet, sitting down, but backwards, like straddling the toilet.  Fool-proof for aiming to begin with, didn't even have to deal with the whole "push it down" thing.  Eventually he got it and turned around and pushed it down, and then he progressed to standing.  When he was learning standing, we played "sink the battleship" and just used a square of TP and I floated it on top of the water and he had to "sink the ship".

Ohhhhh, the things we do.  Surprise

  • We have a Peter Potty and trained him to stand for pee right away he was 2yr 3 months and picked up quickly.  Doens't miss when he's standing at a toilet.
  • He prefers to stand - when we're at home he's in undies he can get up and down (or naked) so he just walks in and stands on his stool and goes and then comes out. If he has to poop, he sits. Or if we're out and they don't have a tiny potty.

  • We also started with having them sit down, but they caught on to peeing standing up VERY quickly. So far they are pretty good at aim---I had DH help in that he would go in there and show them and they listen to him better than me anyway. ;)

  • Both of my boys sat in the beginning, Andrew for almost a year but Cooper only a few months since he watched brother stand.  I'll tell you, Andrew never has missed and Cooper sprays all over the place all.the.time so I'd go with sitting for as long as you can manage it.
