has anyone dyed their hair?

I've read that it's ok w/ low ammonia dye in a well ventilated room... any thoughts? suggestions?

Re: has anyone dyed their hair?

  • That's correct.  I was getting highlights every 6 weeks and colored it myself this last time (about 4 weeks ago).  I plan on hitting up Sally's and doing it again this weekend.  No real suggestions besides not closing yourself in a tiny bathroom for 40 minutes with no fan (I guess that's kinda obvious though, huh?  ha)

  • Yep, and I did it my previous pregnancy as well. My OB is fine with it. I don;t do it in my first trimester, though. I went at 14 weeks this time and go back next weekend (thank goodness, my gray is starting to show!). I will squeeze in another appointment right before baby is due - I need to look good at the hospital :)

  • I am going in on monday to have my highlights done. My stylist keeps the room well ventilated and makes sure the chemicals dont touch my actual head.

  • Yes, but I didn't do it until 2nd trimester, just because I don't go to the salon regularly.  I guess three months had passed between visits.

  • Whole foods sells Ammonia free dyes that work well, they have no smell at all.

  • I last dyed my hair the night of my BFP.

I want to do it again but I'm worried about frying my hair

  • I've had my hair highlighted- my dr. said it was ok since the chemicals don't go on the scalp.

  • Just got my highlights done an hour ago. I dyed my hair all through my pregnancy with DD as well, doctor said it was perfectly fine as long as it's in a well ventilated area.

  • Yup!  At the salon!  I had it at 5 weeks and will again around 20 (it's been TOO long and my greys are blinding people!)

  • i had my hair colored at a salon a week before my BFP. i held out until 12 weeks and dyed it again myself at home, in the bathroom.
i dyed it again a little over three weeks ago, again, at home. once the color is all on i leave the bathroom and wait for it to process in a better ventilated part of the house. i use Feria.

as for those who are so concerned about it touching their scalp:
it's really the fumes you should be worrying about.

  • Yeah, I did. I had an appointment a few weeks ago and have another at the end of the month. I normally just use demi perm, but last time I also got some highlights. If I normally did all over permanent dye, I'd keep doing that. I'm not really worried about the chemicals.
  • Bleach every 4 weeks..on the scalp.  I've done it with all my kids and we just tuck their tails in.
