Anyone see this yet?
So glad our LO's name didn't fall into the top 10. I'm a Heather from the 1980's and went to school with so many. (I got another Heather's valentines one year by mistake). DH and I purposely didn't choose an overly common name because of how much it sucked. DH also has a common name.
Re: 2011 Most popular baby names announced
My favorite was Lily and it was my number one choice but I knew how popular it was and I hate having a popular name. (Katie). So we chose Coraline. I don't see that becoming popular anytime soon
What is your LO's name?
It's a good thing I'm having a boy b/c I love a lot of those girl's names but I really wouldn't want my daughter to be one of 5 other's in her class with the same name. My name was never that popular and I gotta say I like that
I love the name Coraline! It's a great choice! I can't say our LO's name because I literally have family stalking me online to try to find it out. haha.
My Blog
Dream of a better world...where chickens can cross the road without having their motives questioned.
Our LO's name isn't on the list, and I knew it wouldn't be.
I feel kind of cheated though...my LO will be a 2011 baby...don't any December names "count" for this list??
Chiming in on the "popular" name thing...my name was #3 the year I was born. Maybe it was just where I lived, but in elementary school, there was only 1 other Amanda in my grade (there were about 80 of us in the grade, so we rarely had the same teacher). It wasn't the worst thing ever, I didn't know any different. If you absolutely love one of those top 10 names, don't let the fear that it's "too popular" worry you too much.
Our LO's name is Elizabeth and was #12 last year on the SS list.. I dont know any babies/children with the name though so it doesnt bother me.
I'm a Stephanie and there were a ton of us in school. I didn't mind it so much, except the other Stephanie always became my arch nemesis, haha.
I originally liked Lily but strayed away from it due to it's popularity, which I'm glad about because I like our girl name now much better. We're going with Sloane and middle name Adele after my MIL. I like that my daughter will have the same initials as me as I did with my mom.

Kind of glad to see my first name, Emily, is no longer in the top 10. It's tough being a teacher sometimes and thinking someone is calling for you, when it's just one of the 5 or 6 Emily's in the hallway. Luckily it was not popular the year I was born.
Sophia being at the top makes me think of House and how Talb's two baby daughters are Sophie and Sophia. Too funny!
I used to love the name Emma until it appeared on the TV show Friends. I also liked Aiden from the book (and movie) Circle of Friends. They got too popular so they were crossed off my list.
My name is Melanie so I rarely knew anyone else with my name growing up, and I liked it. My husband is Zachary, and he still hates to this day being called "Zac the Lego Maniac".
Once I got pregnant, we decided that I would pick the girl name and he would pick the boy name. I went with Margo, as a bit of an homage to my grandma Margaret. My husband picked Calvin, from our favorite comic strip, Calvin & Hobbes. We would then pass on our middle name to the baby, depending on the sex. I like both names, but as determined by my husband's lucky sperm, we will be having a Margo Jane really soon.
