We've actually had our names chosen for at least a month, and it was such a relief to have made that decision. Then yesterday, out of the blue, Ella popped into my head...a name I have always loved, but wrote off long ago because of its popularity. According to the SSA site it is ranked #13 for girls' names in the country - so, still very popular. However, it is not even in the top 100 for my state, and I only know 1 Ella, not even personally (she is the daughter of a regular nestie from another board).
How popular is it where you are?

I know only one Ella IRL. However, I know several children with El- names that all go by Ella, Elle, Ellie, etc. Off the top of my head, I can think of 5 under the age of 2.
I only know one Ella myself. My beautiful niece...
ETA: I just realized I know two.

I know 5 Ella's all under 3. My niece is named Ella and in every single daycare class that she has been in there have been at least 1 other Ella's.
It really is that popular.
I don't know any Ella's in real life (Or cyber life). But I do know a Eliana that is 6 months old.
