Babies: 0 - 3 Months

11wk old's bedtime is 6-7pm. Is this weird?

For the last month or more, the bed time for our now 11 wk old is getting earlier and earlier, to where now it's around 6:30 to 7pm.  He just won't make it much longer.

He will then sleep about 6-8 hours (not last two nights though, only 5-6 :0(

I read about a lot of other babies this age who's bed time is anywhere from 8pm to 10 pm.  Is this just a variation from baby to baby?  I don't know how I would do a later bed time.  I'd have to keep him up and he'd be miserable.  Or wouldn't even make it.

Just wondering.

  • My lo has picked 7-730. If I dont start his bath by 7pm he has a complete melt down, even if he just napped and is not hungry. They pick when they want to go to sleep.

  • My LO is 14 weeks and since about 9 or 10 weeks we have him going to bed at 7pm.  We found he slept the longest during the night when he went to bed at that time.  I have friends who put their LO's to sleep anytime from 6:30-10pm.  There is no way our LO would make it past 8pm.  He starts getting very cranky around 6 and we try to distract him with a bath, story, and toys for another hour to make it to at least 7.

I guess it all depends on each individual baby.  Maybe try messing with your LO's nap times.  Maybe try to get LO to nap a little earlier in the day for their last nap of the day before bed time.  That mgiht help keep LO up a little later.

  • I bathe my LO around 7:30 and most night's he's down by 8.  I remember with DD by the time she was 3 months she was down between 6:45-7 if not she was super miserable.  I think it varies with most babies but the bedtime does back up starting at about 8/9 weeks.  According to some of the books that I've read the average 4 month old is in bed by 7 so you're not so far off.

DS did the same thing at around the same age and he still goes to bed by 7ish at 16 months. It's fine by me!  After he goes to bed I get to relax with DH and feel like a human. Oh, wait... That was until I had DD....now I'm working on getting her to do the same!!

This except DD is almost 2 and I am working on getting DS closer to 7-7:30.  They will eventually sleep 11-12 hours straight through so you want them to go down that early.

  • I do bath at 6:30 but bedtime is a battle that C fights hard. I try every soothing method in the book but sometimes she doesn't go to sleep until 10, which isn't good for her or me.

  • Thanks all.  I am a fan of early bed times too.  My logic was that hopefully in a few months he will sleep from that early time 6-7pm until 6-7 am, so I'm fine with the early bed time.  Just wondering if it was normal at this age..  Seems a little early for his age, but I'm fine with it.  He's doing a lot of things early.

  • my LO will be 10 weeks on Friday and sometimes she goes to be around 7. I would love for it to be like this every night but occasionally it takes longer to get her down. what time does your LO wake up for the day? what time is first nap?
  • He will wake up for the day @6:30 am-7:45am.  His first nap is 2 hours later.
