A coworker was in my office for something, and once we got business taken care of, we got to chatting about our kids (she has a little boy that's about two years old). I was telling her how I just switched pedis today and was much happier. When I told her who my new one was and who the old one was she told me her SIL went to my old one.... And that when her babies were 4 days old the pedi told her to give them rice cereal for their reflux. 4 days old seems a little young to go ahead and try that as an option for reflux! Talk about making me glad I switched!
it seems odd that at 4 days old the baby had such bad reflux that it was diagnosable. I know that rice cereal is often recommended but that just seems weird
That's what I thought. I didn't think their tummy could hold enough at 4 days old to be able to diagnose reflux.... Seems like that would just be the normal spit up issues. I just can't believe she'd recommend rice cereal at 4 days old....
I would say thought that my daughters reflux started the day she was born. At that time I didn't know what it was but it was horrible. She screamed so hard that her chest would sink in and if you had your hand on her holding her up to burp it would cause a suction between her chest and your hand. It was a scary but the doctors would not take me serious when I said something was not right with her.
DH was a premie and came home from the hospital at 6 weeks old. MIL gave him rice cereal then. Imagine that, he slept through the night!
Did I mention that DH was 8 weeks premature? So in theory he had rice cereal in his bottle before he was even supposed to be born. And no, he did not have reflux.

This sounds like what my dentist's receptionist was telling my mom about her granddaughter! I think my mom said that hers was so bad that she stopped breathing at one point and the doctor put her on a heart monitor and sent it home with them just to be on the safe side.

Rice cereal so soon is nuts.
