Question for 2x moms - weight after baby

This is just random curiosity.  I've read about how much of our pregnancy weight gain is baby "stuff" - the baby, plus the placenta, amniotic fluid, etc., and am curious about how much of a change in weight/size people had from when they got to the hospital to when they walked out with a baby?

Re: Question for 2x moms - weight after baby

  • Walking out with my baby I looked to be a floppy (super floppy) 5 months pregnant.  3 days later with the help of my girdle I was able to fit into my pre-pregnancy clothes - and look good.

You still look very pregnant in the beginning becuase your uterus needs to shrink back down to size.

ETA:  I have no idea what my actual weight was until maybe 6 weeks PP.

  • I did not concern myself with such silliness :)  I think I waited a few weeks before weighing myself again, and to be honest it may have been at my 6 week PP f/u.

  • I didn't weigh myself until my 6 week pp check and even then I didn't even ask to know, but at 5 months pp I had still only lost 14 pounds, but I was able to fit my pre-pregnancy clothes and look relatively good, so even though you may not lose weight fast (or you might) you do trim down again pretty quick!

  • I know it's silly, and I'm not really worried/concerned or anything about weight - I guess it's just crazy to me to think about having a baby and magically all this stuff that was inside of you making your body look a certain way is now on the outside! But then, I could also sit and stare at my moving, rolling, hopping tummy for hours on end and be quite entertained.

  • I think I lost 10 pounds by the time I got home from the hospital.  She weighed 7lbs 6 oz.

  • I didn't weigh myself for a few weeks but depending on how much fluid they pump into you, you could actually walk out of there still weighing the same! I looked puffy for 2 weeks afterwards because of all the fluids! In order for you to get an accurate weight I guess I would wait at least a week to weigh yourself.

  • I didn't weigh myself either for a few weeks but I figure between baby and placenta aprox 10-15 lbs. It takes a few weeks to lose the water. You still have the floppy belly until that shrinks.

  • I weighed myself when i got home and pretty much every day hoping to drop all the weight super fast. i was not one of those mommys. i think when i got home i had only lost a couple pounds. at my 6 week check up i had only lost 25 pounds, i had gained 60. after that my body held on to all the weight and i had to diet and exercise to lose weight. it was so much harder to get the weight off.

  • One of the first things I did was get on the scale, more just out of curiosity...and I was down about 15lbs.  I gained close to 40lbs so I thought it would have been a lot more (wishful thinking I suppose.) Afterwards your stomach is like this big pouch of mush! It's so weird how it jiggles hah! But suprisingly by 6 weeks PP it was very different.

  • I was only 15 with my first daughter, so I was very tiny to start.  I was only 98 lbs and gained 31 total.  I lost 15 lbs the day I had her, and then another 5 at some point.  I kept on 10 lbs which I needed and wanted, so there was no exercise or diet involved at all.

  • I think I probably lost 12+ by the time I left the hospital.  That was quickly counteracted by my milk coming in and the gigantic porn boobs that showed up.

Agreed. I was incredibly puffy. My legs were more swollen the days after I delivered than towards the end of pregnancy. Weight wise, I returned to relatively quickly but my body was so different (still had no waste line and my hips were huge) that non of my pre preg clothes fit for months after. I had to go and buy new clothes since maternity stuff was huge but my old stuff looked rediculous.

  • After my first I lost all the weight by 6w pp. After the second I had 10lbs to go after 6w pp, 5 at 8w pp, and then it took 6 months before I lost the last 5. I hope to hold off weighing myself until the 6w pp appointment this time too.

  • I had a c/s so I was quite swollen when I left the hospital. Couldn't even put on my shoes. But within 2 weeks, I was down 25 lbs (gained 42 lbs in total). Lost all but 5 lbs within 3 months without doing too much (besides bfing all the time!). The remaining 5lbs came with hard work

  • I lost 20 of my 40lbs gained by the end of the first week PP.  I believe most of my weight gain was water retention.  I lost it all by my 6 wk appointment, but was having major stomach problems PP.

  • I still looked at least 6 mo. pregnant when I left the hospital.
  • I still looked pregnant when I left the hospital and I was really swollen from the fluids.  I gained 60 and lost about 35 within 6 weeks.  I think I lost about 15 within the first week or so. I hope the same thing happens again this time because I wll have gained about 35ish total.

  • At my midwife appointment that morning I weighed 196, at 11pm that night after I had him I weighed 183. So just the amniotic fluid, placenta & baby weighed 13lbs.

  • DS was 8 lbs...when I got home, I had only lost 6!!! ALL that damn water weight from being pumped full of fluids I think.  I lost ten the first week.  It was slow going after that...never lost the last 15.
