April 2012 Moms

Should I mind my own business? FB related.

I posted yesterday about a classmate from H.S. who is 36 weeks pregnant and has been trying to induce labor for almost a month.

Today she writes "Just left the doctor... FINALLY I'm starting to dilate and thin. Going home for now but hopefully little man will kick it in gear sooooooon"

Please God, I want to say something. WTH do you mean FINALLY? You're only 36 weeks.

Should I say something about how important the final weeks are for brain & lung development? FFS, no area hospital even has a NICU if something were to happen, God forbid. The closest NICU is over 2 hours away.

  • I'd probably just keep it to myself... even if you did say something, it probably wouldn't phase her anyway it sounds like.

  • My guess is she will either a) ignore you or b) get super pissed off at you and probably defriend you after she defends her decision to try to evict her baby early.

I would just stay out of it and if possible block her FB status updates for another 4 weeks.  Then when she hits 40 weeks unblock her and laugh for every second over due she is.

  • In my opinion, no.

Your 100% absolutely right, she is being rediculous and the last and final weeks of pregnancy ARENT fun or easy. But they are so incredibly important. She should be happy for every moment baby stays inside and cook!

However, I wouldnt say a word. It would just cause her to have unpleasant feelings towards you probably. I would put money on the fact that your not the only one thinking the things you are.

  • I think I would say something passive aggressive. Like, I hope your baby is healthy if its born so early. I do like the thought of laughing at her when she goes overdue. Hehehe.

  • 14 people have "liked" her status - mostly moms.

I don't understand why people can't read a news article or a book, FFS. God made humans pregnant for 40 weeks for a reason, you know?

I'll keep my mouth closed and just straight up have to hide her. I'm sitting on my hands trying to not say anything.

  • That is SO hard to not say something! Ugh...what an idiot.

Yes, I LOVE being passive agressive when the need arises.

Ha, I'd be like "Oh wow, I'd be so scared to have my child early as there are so many possible complications" Wink

  • Aside from her being clueless about how long pregnancy is supposed to last, I'm just grossed out that she feels the need to let everyone know the status of her cervix.

I would block her status updates- it would probably irritate me too much...

  • I'd probably say something like "I thought your due date was December 24th?" or whatever it is. Then see how she responds. Is it possible that you're mistaken about how far along she is?
  • But if you DO decide to say something, please tell us what you say and all responses. I despise being in FB drama but I live for hearing about other people's facebook drama Big Smile

PS 14 people "liking" it...ugh. That would piss me off.

I stand by the fact that I personally woudlnt say anything...but now I kind of want you to LOL thats just me being a lil devil today thoDevil

I like this. It's not overtly snarky, but it may give her pause - and it prevents an awkward situation for you just in case there's a good reason she's trying to go early.

  • Unless those weekly pregnancy updates on FB are wrong, she's shy of 37 weeks.

  • Me, I would, as sarcastically as possible, be like... "Girl!!! You better hope that baby bakes a few more weeks!!! 36 weeks isn't full term!!!". People can be such idiots!

I'd say this too, or even something like "How many days overdue are you?"

  • I'd just roll my eyes and keep scrolling down the page like I do to half my friends who update with stuff like what they are doing every hour of the day.

  • I'd just tell her to quit being a twit and that she isn't even full term. Tell her the longer she goes the better it is for the baby. Good gravy! That is ridiculous.
i wish i could be joking but my dad is the music teacher at a church so he owuld be mad. we had sex, all the time how bad i know but we dont want to wait and he said GREAT OH KAY! and I was really feeling the wets? down there- too embarsed to say- but he acted like man.
  • Maybe the 14 people that liked it, liked the part about her getting closer to going into labor? I mean, you can be 1cm dilated and start to thin for weeks, can't you?

In my head I always like thinking of snarky and sarcastic things to say but don't usually have the balls to say it. The "I thought your due date was Dec 24" comment could work, and maybe those that liked her original update will join in?

  • You could post the following on your FB feed, indirectly, and hope she sees it

    https://www.marchofdimes.com/pregnancy/getready_atleast39weeks.html

Or, email it privately if you are comfortable being that direct.

I'm hoping this campaign starts to make an impact.

This is what I would do, just post some article about how important the last few weeks are.

  • I would probably say something, but try to be kind.  Like, "oh, hunny, babies come when they're good and ready.  there isn't that much you can do to control mother nature.  maybe he just wants to stay nice and warm in there for awhile."

it doesn't directly get the point across, but it keeps you from saying something that could antagonize her.

but really...some people are insane!  i would totally be in the same situation as you, btw!

My practice won't start checks until 40 weeks, since they are pretty meaningless. I know women that can walk around at a 3 or more for weeks, and others that are completely closed and then have a baby a day later.

I don't know what this new practice does, but I might request that they don't check until 38 or 39. It was pointless. I was at barely a three when my water broke at 40 weeks 6 days so that 1 meant nothing.

I think you definetly should ask "How many days overdue are you?" Just as if your sincerly unaware and she must obviously be overdue to be b!tching like she is.

  • I think you should contact Children's Aid and report her. Just kidding. I think you should keep it zipped. Who cares what she does? It's not like she's trying to induce you.

    Now THAT would be awkward.
