Stay at Home Moms

just for fun, if you're lyrically challenged...

My husband loves to sing along to whatever song is on even though he doesn't know the words. The problem is, he THINKS he knows the words!  I was just making fun of him last night and we started talking about all the misunderstood lyrics that i've "caught" him singing.

My personal favorite: I Will Always Love You, by Whitney Houston.  So the song starts off "bittersweet memories...."   And for YEARS he SWORE it was "you've been a sweet man, Maurice"  hahaha I actually had to bring up the lyrics online to prove that one!  He thought the guy in the movie The Bodyguard must be named Maurice!  lmao

What's your favorite misunderstood lyric, or one you were shocked/ embarassed about?

Re: just for fun, if you're lyrically challenged...

  • I do this a LOT. I love singing loudly, and I don't care if I mess up. For usher's "OMG" song, the real words are "baby I can love you down" and I would sing "baby I can rub you down".

And for Tim Mcgraws BBQ stain song- he says "standing there in the ticket line" and I would always sing picket line. I had no idea Sad

  • This goes back a way:

My mom thought MC Hammer's Can't Touch This was King Tuskus.  She kept saying how much she loved his King Tuskus song and none of us could figure it out till one day it actually played on the radio while I was with her.

  • Oh man- DH and I are both guilty of this, a LOT. :) Probably my worst one was the Fleetwood Mac song "White Winged Dove." For the longest time, I honestly thought it was ONE winged dove!!! DH died laughing when we discussed this. We have a lot more bad ones... :/

  • Brooks & Dunn's "Red Dirt Road"....I always thought "high achievers" was "higher cheepers".  Don't ask me what a cheeper is, I have NO clue but DH just about died laughing when he heard that and pointed it out, lol.

  • I always thought it was "I set the man in motion" instead of "I second that emotion" in the Smokey Robinson song. Guess I could've figured it out from the title, huh?

  • I was really young and shouldn't have even known the word, but I thought Dude Looks Like a Lady, by Aerosmith was "Do the effing (real word here) lady"

I couldn't believe that they could play that on the radio and no one seemed to care!

I used to think it was "Do the funky lady"!

Just remembered another one that my DH did.  DS was screaming in the car on our roadtrip as an infant and we had to keep singing.  It took a couple verses for me to realize that DH was saying "My body lies over the ocean" instead of "My Bonnie".  We actually like the "My body" version better now, more entertaining!

Ok, just thought of another one, but I think I mentioned it on here once and it was DS.  He thought "Silent Night" said "Sleep in heavenly bees" and I was so confused when he kept asking me to sing the "Bee's song".

  • DH confronted me a few years ago for letting the boys listen to the Jordin Spark's song, Love is a Battlefield.

She sings: Better go and get your armor, get your armor, get your armor...   And, DH thought it was: Better go and get your rubber, get your rubber, get your rubber....  Not that the boys would have known what that meant anyways!

Our oldest still sings the Leona Lewis "Keep bleeding love" song as "Keep beating love" which I prefer anyways.

I still hear and sing Tom Petty's song "Won't back down" as "Walk back down" even though I know better.

  • My cousin and sister were singing along to The Pussycat Dolls "When I grow up." Instead of singing "I wanna have groupies" they sang "I wanna have b00bies!" My mom and I were in the car with them and we were laughing so hard. They kept insisting it was right until I showed them the actual lyrics.

omg I thought this too while playing just dance 2 AND they have the lyrics on the screen lol. But I can't really read and dance at the same time. I used to the think the Pissing the night away song was saying Kissing the night away....I like my version better so I still sing it that way!

  • Ok, so I'm with scattered: I so thought it was "seahorses with looking glass eyes" and I also always thought Pussycat Dolls' "I Wanna Grow Up" said boobies, not groupies... Are you sure? :) And I used to think the Aerosmith song was "Do it like a lady" People need to enunciate.
  • When I was a little kid, my mom listened to the song Third Rate Romance by Sammy Kershaw.. for years I loved the song because I thought it said "Third grade romance.."

I thought it was "bittersweet man Maurice" for the longest time! It made so much more sense when I finally figured it out.

My mom had a really funny one. In the Lonestar song "Amazed," she heard kids instead of kiss. She thought the guy must be really strange if he was talking about "the taste of your kids."

Oh! and my brother heard "Don't surrender 'cause you can win in this thin curled liver." in a Celine Dion song.
