Holiday Poll #1

Ok, we have talked about real or fake trees.

Now, what is your least favorite thing about the Holiday Season?  And that can be any Holiday in November, December or January - Christmas, Chanukkah, Kwanzaa, New Years, Soltice, Thanksgiving?

And lets think more broadly than just the comericalism of the season.  That is too easy.

  • Honestly, its just the task of decorating!  Getting it all unpacked and put out and then 2-3 weeks later having to pack it all up and put it away.   If we were hosting or entertaining, it would be one thing...but no one but the 3 of see it.   And I've thought about not doing it at all but then I feel massive guilt since we have a toddler now.  She still has no idea what Xmas or Santa is so we could probably get away with it this year...but still massive guilt.

I hate colored lights too and I don't even deal with shopping in person, I do it all online.  No time/patience for the a-holes.

  • Ok, this is probably classified as commercialism, but I really really really hate the buying present madness. Many presents end up being never used. So it is a waist of money, waste of recourses, and waste of time choosing those presents.

  • How politically correct things have become.

  • I hate the blahness that results from all the lights and decorations being packed away. And I hate the task of putting away all those decorations...
  • My least favorite thing is holiday specific clothing. Sweaters, shirts, socks... they all bug me.

  • I hate spending hours upon hours preparing for a big turkey dinner, cooking it, cleaning up after it.   And it only takes about 20 minutes to eat it and everybody's done.

  • How rushed it all seems -- hurry to decorate, wrap, ship, shop, bake, plan, travel.  It's just exhausting.  I really need to find a gig where I can take the entire month of December off.

  • I would have to agree with the politically correct thing.

  • I don't like that I feel pressured to buy gifts for SO many people!  I have a huge family and I feel guilty saying "we're only buying for the little kids this year, please don't get us anything".  But I say it anyway and feel better not being in debt after Christmas!

  • i'm with Pesky - the feeling of being rushed from Thanksgiving to New Years.  It probably doesn't help that both DD and I have birthdays in there either.  I suck at decorating - that's not my strain of creativity so it's up there too (but I don't mind taking stuff down - it's like doing dishes, I know where everything goes...).
  • Everything. I dislike putting up decorations because I hate the work of taking them down and finding room to store them. I dislike the car commercials (almost as much as the election day commercials). I could continue but I don;t want people to think I am a miserable person
  • I dislike the Lexus commercials!  They drive me insane.  And I hate the let down after you spend a month shopping and celebrating, only to have it all over.

  • I hate the pressure to be here, to be there, etc.  Then when there are two conflicting activities and you chose one you have to deal with the attitude from the people of the one you didn't chose.  We went through a stretch where everyone in my family thought December weddings were the best thing.  I skipped a 3rd cousin's wedding to go to my company Christmas party and got a lot of grief.

  • I hate the pressure I feel every year to have a "perfect" holiday. There simply isn't enough time to do everything, and I hate feeling guilty for just wanting to relax at home alone.

OH! This. I can't stand the "oooh, let's give a car" as a gift commercials. And I loathe the commercials that imply all that any woman wants for Christmas is to get engaged. Ugh, I ranted about this before.

Next we'll see commercials where the man is sitting in the driver's seat of his SO's new car--that he's giving as a gift--with an open ring box in his hand asking her to marry him.
