Re: Daily Bed Rest Check-In (WED) 11/30/11

  • Welcome, Jgal84 - I lurk on the March board and was hoping you'd join us here during your bedrest!

    1.  What physical symptom during your pregnancy has suprised you the most, or did you least expect?

I don't care how many times someone tells you about "lightening crotch"... until I felt it, I never imagined how shocking (no pun intended!!) it feels!!

    2.  How many times a night do you usually wake or get up?

I get up only once or twice, but I usually am up for a couple hours afterward.

    3. Would you rather bake or cook?

COOK!!! I miss that so much while on bed rest.  My husband is doing the best he can, but I hate giving up control of the kitchen.

    4.  Updates & Vents

The crib bedding arrived yesterday - I LOVE it!!!  Having to order everything online, sight unseen is a little nerve wracking.  But so far, so good!!

  • Yeah! Half way through the week!!!

    1. What physical symptom during your pregnancy has suprised you the most, or did you least expect?

Pupps and restless legs. It is a never ending battle. I take benedryl so I'm not so itchy, which has a chance of making my feet go insane. I just want to feel nomal again!!!!

    2. How many times a night do you usually wake or get up?

Between 6-8. I find most of the evening I'm super thirsty and need to drink gallons of water. Makes for a loooong night!

    3. Would you rather bake or cook?

Bake!! I really miss baking. I knew I was going to be off work from 30 weeks on and was so excited to spend that time baking. I'm so bummed that I can't. I really want my Christmas sugar cookies and truffles!

    4. Updates & Vents

Looking forward to seeing the doctor tomorrow! It's a nice opportunity to get out of the house. My vent is that my golden doodle is having an identity crisis and thinks he's a polar bear. He has been crying since 7 this morning cause he wants to play in the snow.

  • Hi there!  I'm new to the board, though I spent some time here a few years ago with my first pregnancy.  Now I'm pregnant with #2 and history is repeating itself.  I've been having pre-term labor symptoms since 12 weeks, went on terb for contractions at 21 weeks, now on modified bedrest due to funneling at 22w5d.  I have a toddler at home with me, so we're trying to figure out a routine.  Any advice on resting with a toddler would be appreciated.

    1.  What physical symptom during your pregnancy has suprised you the most, or did you least expect?
Showing faster with #2, it's freakishly unbelievable!  And I weighed the same going into the pregnancy.

    2.  How many times a night do you usually wake or get up?
Usually two or three to potty and take terb.

    3. Would you rather bake or cook?
Cook, for sure.  I'm awful at following directions, baking is too exact for my attention span.

    4.  Updates & Vents
I'm just praying I don't have to spend any time bed resting in the hospital.  I don't even want to think about missing my daughter and DH that much.  And I want to be home for Christmas.

  • Good morning ladies!

    1. What physical symptom during your pregnancy has suprised you the most, or did you least expect?

My hips feel like they are being ripped apart!  It's so bad that it wakes me up at night. And walking takes a lot of effort.

    2. How many times a night do you usually wake or get up? 2 or 3 times.  I'm awake for about a half hour each time. Not too bad.

    3. Would you rather bake or cook?

I'm not really good at either, but I would love to learn to bake more.

    4. Updates and Vents

Work has been driving me crazy lately. I don't like my job at all, but I am thankful that they are allowing me to work from home so I still have my income. But I would really rather not have to worry about it.  I just want to concentrate on my baby and getting through this pregnancy.  Urgghhh.  It's very frustrating.

  • Aaww, thank you ladies so much for the warm welcome (hey ekaj!!)! @2dogmom - I think we may have talked on a post about our contractions a few weeks ago. If it's not you, then blame this on pregnancy brain Wink

    1.  What physical symptom during your pregnancy has suprised you the most, or did you least expect? Everyone says that you show earlier with your 2nd one, but honestly, I barely have a bump. I'm confused. I know the baby is small (checking for IUGR in 2 weeks), but still. Where's my cute, hugely noticeable bump? Oh well, at least I didn't have to worry about a bunch of strangers molesting my belly....

    2.  How many times a night do you usually wake or get up? Between DD#1 waking me up and having to pee, it's usually 4-6 times on average.

    3. Would you rather bake or cook?  Hehe, DH does 99% of the meals around here.

    4.  Updates & Vents I have already called and got my STD benefits started. Woohoo for productivity!!

  • Hi everyone!  I just posted an intro, but I'm here to join the bed rest party.  My OB called last night to tell me to start resting and then I have a follow up appointment today to sort out what exactly that will mean for me.

I'm curious if any of you are on bed rest for pre-e what kind of activity you're allowed?  I'm totally new to all of this, but it seems to me like the strictest kind of bed rest might not be ideal for someone with blood flow issues?  I do know that days of resting have helped on scary bp days, so I'm optimistic!

    1.  What physical symptom during your pregnancy has surprised you the most, or did you least expect?

I didn't know much about pre-e before, so I've been surprised at how quickly this has crept up on me.

    2.  How many times a night do you usually wake or get up?

    2-4

    3. Would you rather bake or cook?

I love to do both, but if I had to pick, I'd say cook.  I never measure things and am constantly substituting ingredients in recipes, so I don't always have the attention to detail required for baking.

    4.  Updates & Vents

Still a bit freaked out from the diagnosis and wondering what this will all mean for me and my baby, but hopeful that the bed rest will help and I'll be able to stick it out for as many more weeks as I can.  In the meantime, there's lots to think about in terms of rearranging my life since I was just about to take law school finals and will (hopefully) have to take next semester off if I can stay pregnant that long.

  • 1. What physical symptom during your pregnancy has suprised you the most, or did you least expect?

Leg issues!!!  I was getting crazy charlie horses in the middle of the night, totally freaking out my husband.  Now (maybe b/c of bedrest or 3rd tri, not sure) I have restless leg syndrome / achy legs which keep me up.   Not much helps, I try to stretch, massage, etc.  and that only gives me relief for a few minutes.

    2. How many times a night do you usually wake or get up?

3-6 -- with alarms to take my procardia / indomethacin around the clock, having to pee, waking up because my legs hurt.  I guess on the bright side God is preparing me for waking with with the babies. :)

    3. Would you rather bake or cook?

Bake!! Though I don't like sweets so I never get to bake because it always has to be for other people. Haha.  I find it more exact, I'm not very good at improvising in my cooking (ie. I substitute based on color, etc. hahahha.)  Getting better 3 yrs into marriage, but in the beginning we definitely had SEVERAL nights where it wasn't just "not good", it was clearly gag-reflex inedible!!!!

    4. Updates & Vents

    Fairly Quiet day.

Spontaneous Boy / Girl Twins, put on bedrest at 27 wks, gave birth at 33 weeks, took my twins home at 35.5 weeks and they are growing fast! Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker
  • Happy Wednesday! And welcome, LisaND - I can't imagine going through this while in law school (I graduated in 2008) - good luck to you!

    1. What physical symptom during your pregnancy has suprised you the most, or did you least expect?

Ugh....acne! I guess I shouldn't have been too surprised, as I have always had somewhat problematic skin, but between having to stop using my "good" skin cream due to the pregnancy and the hormones, my face, neck, back, and tummy look like I belong back in 10th grade! No glowing skin or beautiful bare prego belly for me!

    2. How many times a night do you usually wake or get up?

I actually get up to use the bathroom about twice per night. I also wake up every time I have to change positions due to getting uncomfortable, so that is a lot! Luckily, I don't have any trouble falling back asleep right away.

    3. Would you rather bake or cook?

Cook! Pre-bedrest, I cooked almost all of our meals. Now that I have hit 35 weeks, I will probably start cooking fast, easy meals again. However, DH is an awesome baker and makes me tasty desserts all the time :).

    4. Updates & Vents

35 weeks today!!! In honor of this, DH and I will be making a short, low-key shopping trip to pick up items for my hospital bag tonight.

  • Thanks for the welcome!  Hopefully, I only have one more week of this, but we shall see.

    1.  What physical symptom during your pregnancy has suprised you the most, or did you least expect?  I was surprised how early in the pregnancy my back started to hurting.  Like before 20 weeks and it was constant pain.  I did not expect to be diagnosed with GD, much less be on bed rest.

    2.  How many times a night do you usually wake or get up?  Hmmm, it has been a little bit better the last two nights. Before that, a few times.

    3. Would you rather bake or cook? I love doing both. For now, i will say cook until I can actually enjoy eating what I bake. lol

    4.  Updates & Vents

I have a tooth ache for the past three days.  It is one of my wisdom teeth that I think now has a cavity and will just have to be pulled, but is most likely something that needs to wait till post baby.  It has stopped bothering me a while ago and just started to act up again.

My MIL asked us AGAIN last night about when we are going to start potty training C. This is easily the 6th time, the first being on Mother's Day when C was 18 months old.   1. I can't believe that with all that is going on with me right now that she thinks this even on our radar. and 2) When H explained that right now timing wise things are not right and does that makes sense she gave us a short "No, it doesn't"  So basically, she feels free to make comments with a fair amount of judgment in her voice but if we respond not to her liking she just shuts down. It drives me nuts and honestly, just pisses me off.

  • 1.  What physical symptom during your pregnancy has suprised you the most, or did you least expect?
No matter what I do, I always experience this weird feeling above my diaphragm, like right along the bra-strap line, and it doesn't matter if I'm wearing a sports bra, nursing bra or no bra - it's so uncomfortable.  That coupled with the feeling that I'm not getting circulation to my arms and how light-headed I get...its really uncomfortable and even more frustrating that I can't find a way to get relief.

    2.  How many times a night do you usually wake or get up?
On a good night once, to take procardia and pee...sometimes up to 4 times.  I can usually go right back to sleep, unless LO is also awake and then sometimes I'll just lay there to feel him moving around.  That is the BEST!

    3. Would you rather bake or cook?
I'm really bad at both, but I can make an awesome mixed salad!! I can follow instructions really well though so I'd have to say bake.

    4.  Updates & Vents
Thank you cards are done, meet&greet with Pediatrician #2 is scheduled and I'm feeling halfway organized this week.  Of course that can change at any moment...!  I even snuck in 20 minutes in the sunshine - it's been too hot to sit outside without overheating so DH put a lounge chair out for me today and enjoy the cool front we just had.

  • Hi ladies! Hope everyone's had an uneventful Wed! 1. I remember getting really short of breath but only while talking a lot (i.e. going over discharge instructions with patients at work) during 1st and early 2nd tri. 2. I get up to pee 2-3x/night. I check my blood sugar, too, when I get up to pee. :) 3. I enjoy both but really love to bake since DH and I both have a bit of a sweet tooth. I miss not cooking and baking. 4. Baby passed today's NST and BPP with flying colors!!! He even had hiccups during NST, which means he has enough fluid to be swallowing/ practice breathing. My AFI is still low but consistent. Hasn't decreased much, if at all. My BP continues to be good, too! I go back next Wed for another NST and BPP.
