March 2012 Moms

Someone please tell me it's ok...

I caved!!  I know it's so stupid to spend too too much money on maternity clothes because they are only for a specific amount of time and if/when I get PG again in the future they may be out of style.....buuuuuut...I bought a pair of Seven maternity jeans.  I had to!!!  I felt gross in the other ones I've bought and need to feel like I can still look cute.  Can anyone commiserate? Can anyone tell me it's ok and that they totally understand?  TIA b/c I really need some support...

 I'm so lame... :-)

  • I can't commiserate because I refuse to spend that much money on a pair of pants that I intend to not be able to wear anymore as quickly as possible, but if you have the extra money to spend, I don't judge you for buying them.

  • I LOVE Seven jeans so you get my vote! I don't even want to know how much they cost though! But seriously, good for you! I have resorted to nothing but yoga pants! Comfy, but not so stylish.

    Pretty much this.

  • I can commiserate!  I hate my maternity pants :(  They leave this "pouch" because I carry so low, I feel like I look ridiculous, so I always end up wearing long shirts.  If DH would go with it, I'd be buying Sevens in no time!  (as long as I could deal with the guilt...I've had major pregnancy guilt lately!)

    I say, wear 'em proud!

  • How about I meet you halfway...I bought a pair of sevens on ebay for $50.  I also bought my fave pair of jeans, some Isabella Olivers, for $50 too.  No wear near the $200 regular pricetag but if you get a lot of wear out of them, enjoy them!  I would be wearing those suckers in every outfit.  : )

  • The way that I see it is, I need to at least look good no matter how uncomfortable I feel about my body. So if a good pair of jeans (my weakness has always been Paige Premium - and I love their maternity jeans, too) is what does it for me, then I'm going to splurge a little on them. No need to feel guilty about it!

  • If you have the money to spend, I don't judge you.  That goes for anything, not just jeans.  DH bought me a Coach diaper bag and I don't feel at all guilty about how much it cost.  :)
FWIW, you can get Seven (and any other designer) maternity jeans on ebay for a reasonable price.  I don't shop on ebay too often, but for clothes that I am only going to wear for a short amount of time, I have looked there more than once.  :)

  • Thanks ladies - but wow!!  Some people are harsh, no?  I appreciate the feedback...I agree that I need to feel good about myself, especially when my bod is at a weird stage in the pregnancy.  I'm carrying low and don't really have too much of a bump...I've only gained 3 lbs over my pre-preg weight (b/c I lost 7 in the first tri) but was a little overweight to begin with.  Add all this together and I just feel FAT!!  Thanks again ladies!!

  • ROck those jeans!! Nothing wrong with your splurg! You go girl. Can you get me a pair?! LOL. I think it is wonderful you got a pair of pants that help you feel cute! WE need all the help we can get at this point!

  • Don't feel bad at all, I have 3 pairs of designer mat jeans and a few really expensive mat coats for winter. I don' care if it's frivolous, I like to look good all the time, nothing changed cause I got pg. I still take the time everyday to look good and feel good.
  • I too have a pair of Citizens of Humanity jeans and Sevens.  I do recommend that if you get the urge to buy more look on ebay first. I got my Citzens brand new with the tags on ebay for $65!  It does't seem as painful then.

  • If you have the extra money and in no way had to take away from anything else to get them, screw it, feel good.  I have a few pairs of maternity jeans and I feel like they fit great and most were under 20 bucks but if you body type is hard to fit then screw it!

  • PIP them with you wearing them so we can all enjoy them with you lol.  I couldn't ever bring myself to spend a lot on maternity clothes but I never spent a lot on my clothes before maternity and probably won't after either :P

  • Wear those suckers out!  If we had the extra cash right now, I would be all over a good pair of jeans!  I have gotten a ton of hand-me-downs that I only wear at work and one decent pair marked down more than 50% off from Motherhood Maternity that I wear almost EVERY DAY.  I say, if you can afford it, there is NOTHING wrong with it.  It's important to still feel cute and comfy!

  • I wouldn't even buy Seven jeans when not pregnant. So insanely expensive, and no one even notices. BUT, if it's in your budget, go for it.

I see no harshness in this thread.

This. I just refuse to spend $ when I will never wear them again.

I hope to be sick and tired and despise my limited maternity wardrobe come March as motivation to get my a$$ back in shape :)

I do understand the need to feel good. It's going to be hard to feel confident when I am a walking blimp... Expensive jeans won't help me personally with that, I would just feel worse for spending the money.

  • I can kinda feel your pain.  I have not bought Seven jeans.  But I also just can't buy maternity clothes at some stores.  I have stuck with Gap mostly, which is moderately priced.  I have tried Old Navy and I think the fabric quality is cheap.  I have tried Kohls and I think the way the clothes there are cut they look like they are for 80 year old women.  So I have spent a little more and gone with Gap...but like one of the previous posters said I hope to be out of these clothes ASAP so I am trying not to buy too much.

  • I miss my Sevens!  There's no way in hell that I can afford jeans like that right now (maternity or not), but if you can, why not?  That's what they're there for.  And FWIW I do notice/admire the look of Sevens, Hudsons etc when people wear them.  But I don't "notice" when someone isn't in designer jeans.  I think I only notice when stuff stands out.

yeaaah this :) When it comes to clothes in general - I am super cheap lol.  Buuuut, we all have the things in life that makes us happy.  For me it just happens to be electronics. If you have the money and it makes you feel good *shrug*!

    Totally agree with this PP...

I have bought 2 pairs of maternity jeans: 1 from gap ($40) and 1 from old navy ($20). I'm not into "designer" labels so I have no idea how much Seven jeans would cost..

As long as you and your SO/DH are okay with the cost, then rock them!!

All of this! I don't judge you, but I won't be joining you Stick out tongue

    What Sheveen and Salt said...

I have a accumulated a lot of Sevens, Citzens, etc. over the years, but still couldn't justify spending $200 on their maternity version. I bought 2 pairs of A Pea in the Pod brand jeans and IMO they look pretty good. I ended up spending around $70 total as I had a coupon. I've also heard of have a seamstress sew in a band to a pair of your regular jeans. I may try this with a pair that was a little big on me pre-pregnancy...

    oh I notice!  ;-)

I'm in on the Seven splurge!  Mine was a dress from Nordstroms which I'll wear once for a wedding then probably never again.

I justify it with "once the baby comes - this will HAVE to stop"  right? RIGHT????

  • I've never bought designer jeans but was going to splurge and spoil myself once I dropped 3 pant sizes. Right before I got pregnant I lost 30 lbs and was going to reward myself with a few new things. Well, of course now I can't really do that. But if I were going to buy Sevens (which maybe one day I will... shoot, sounds fun) it will definitely be after baby gets here. Last week I bought a sweater dress to make myself feel better- it looked awful and I had to return it. Basically, if it makes you feel better, I'm all for it. I agree with one of the the PP's (allie maybe?) that you need to post a pic so we can all live through you.
  • If you want them and can afford them get them!!!  I've had a difficult time finding work maternity pants, and I think the ones at Motherhood Maternity are uncomfortable and cheap.  My DH keeps saying  "Well comfort doesn't really matter since you only have to wear them a few months."  Heck yes comfort matters considering this is probably the most uncomfortable I'll be!

Another thing to consider is people are willing to spend $$$ on different things i.e. lots of women I know get prenatal massages which run $80+ for an hour of comfort.  Think...you are get multiple hours of comfort over multiple weeks and possibly future pregnancies for $200.
