Growth Ultrasound a cause for concern?

I went for my growth ultrasound yesterday at 35w4d (sorry ticker is off). Our baby girl was measuring at 7lbs 12oz. Her head and torso were measuring at 38w4d and 39w2d. The doctor said she is going to be a big girl and is expecting that if I make it to 39 weeks she would like to induce me because she will likely be over 9lbs by then. I know there is a bit of a margin of error on the size estimates but should I be concerned that she is SO BIG already? For those of you that have been measuring ahead and have had a growth ultrasound what were your babies measuring at 36 weeks and was your doctor concerned at all? I am slightly terrified of going another 3+ weeks with her size and not being able to get her out. Also she didn't check me yesterday for any progress so I have no clue on if I will end up going into labor on my own before then.

Re: Growth Ultrasound a cause for concern?

  • Mine is probably about the same right now (my last growth ultrasound was at 33w and something and she was 6lbs and 80th percentile at that time)... my dr ordered another growth for next week. My husband and I were big babies and I have been measuring large for the whole pregnancy so I think she just wants to keep an eye on things. I am being induced at 39w2d anyway so I dont really see the point but oh well.

I would definitely push for a vaginal birth regardless of growth though, dont let them try to bully you into a C section for size!

  • At my 34 week growth ultrasound, baby was measuring 6 lbs 10 oz, which freaked me out bad considering I had 6 weeks to go.

I have another growth u/s in a week.  Doc says size can be off by 1 lb either direction.  Doc says if baby comes on his own in the next week or 2, we should be fine, but if I go full term and baby is still high up and showing no signs of coming down, then we need to think about other options (such as c-section).  I'm hoping baby comes on his own before then (obviously).

As freaked out as I was and upset because I might end up w/a c-section I just keep reminding myself that the baby is healthy and that's what really matters.  Worrying won't help anything.

    Good luck.

  • I just a had an unplanned growth ultrasound this morning because I'm 39 weeks and my cervis actually hardened in the past week.  My doc said that the estimated weights can be off by 15% either way.  She's actually more concerned that I haven't softened and that the baby is still so high up over the size of the baby.
