Baby Names

Layne or Lainey?

Do you like those for a girl?  We are still so stuck on names and not loving (or agreeing) on any L, A or B names that we see (initials for loved ones).

Are either of those names that a girl could grow into?  Are they better as NN for Alaina or some other name with "lane" in it?

Can you suggest a MN starting with A or B that would go well with it?

TIA!

Re: Layne or Lainey?

  • I am not a fan of -y or -ey names, so I would do Layne or Elaine and NN her Laney if you want.

    Layne Adair

    Layne Barbara

    Layne Bridget

  • I kinda see the -e as a silent -e when it's spelled Layne.  For that reason I go with Lainey.  I think it can stand on its own or you could do Alaina.

  • I really hate them for a girl as standalone names.

Alaina or Elaine make for good names these can be a nickname for, and actually I'd even prefer Delaney to just Lane/Lainey as a standalone.

  • I like Elaine or Elaina better, with the nn Lainey. I think Lainey is an adorable nn!

Same for me. I like Lainey the best.

  • I really like Lane/Layne for a girl.  Layne is a cute spelling for Lane too- does not look made up- just the girl version.  Not a fan of Lainey.  If anything, you could name daughter Layne and her nickname could become Lainey if you think so.  Soemtimes nicknames just evolve with the -ee sound.  Like my son is Jack and often call him Jackie (but do not want that name to stick).  I love Layne since I love unisex names for girls.

  • I love the name Layne. I would not give a baby the name Lainey- too cutesy. I would definitely name her Layne/Laine with the nn Lainey.

  • I went to school with a girl named Lane Elizabeth and she went by Lanie.  I always loved her name.

You could do Lane Alexandra.  I think that's pretty.

  • Our DD is Laine (don't like the Y spelling) but we call her Lainey. I LOVE her name. We would have just named her Lainey but we didn't think it aged as well.

Alaina is very pretty, and Lainey is totally a good nn for it.

Some suggestions: Laine Amelia, Alaina Bridget, Alaina Beatrice

  • One of my best friends is a Lainey (nn for Elaine) so I have to go with that one.

  • Option C--None of the above.

Lainey is an OKAY name for a little girl, but doesn't sound like a woman's name.  Layne/Lane sounds like a guys name to me.

  • As an Alayna...Some people called me Layney (or whatever spelling, it was never written out, only spoken) when I was young and I never get called that now. No one in school called me it either really. Only one friend growing up did, and she still does occasionally when I see her, probably more as a term of endearment. My boss has a daughter named Alaina and he calls her Lainy (again whatever spelling, only ever spoken) a lot of the time when he's talking about her. I am with the PPs regarding it would be good as a NN, but not as her name.
