Help me decide on winter boots [CP]

I'm debating between the LL Bean and Stonz. A's been walking for about 3 months and could probably handle the real sole of the LL Bean boots but it would certainly be stiffer than anything he's worn before. Stonz are soft-soled but I wonder if they will provide enough protection.

Sorry couldn't get a picture off the website but we have the Sorel Toddler Snow Commander https://www.sorel.com/SNOW-COMMANDER%E2%84%A2-TODDLER-%7C-582-%7C-4/803298484657,default,pd.html# and love them. If I were to choose from the two you have above it would be the LL Bean.

I could be wrong here but I have heard that something with a soft sole can actually be warmer because of the friction which I tend to believe. I have muk luks which are soft soled and they are warmer than any other boots I have owned
