Can't believe a customer said this to me at work today

I deal with the public and work as a bank teller. We had a really nasty older man come in today and wanted to withdraw a sizeable amount of money. I informed him that there would be certain paperwork we would have to do based on federal regulation and he was really pissed about that. He then told me he would take a dollar less than the amount that is needed to report the transaction which also means I need to report that. He continued to get very mad. He was so irrate that he was saying that banks are horrible and we are respresenting them and shame on us blah blah blah. I said to him "sir, I am 8 months pregnant, you don't expect me to make a living?" He then had the nerve to look at me and say , "I hope your baby starves to death". I freakin let loose on him telling him " don't ever talk about my child dying!" I was screaming at him. I went nuts on him. How could someone actually say that to another person they don't know about their unborn baby dying (or any child at that). I have never felt so much rage in my life!

oooh. I would be pretty irate myself. I'm a bank teller too and I hate when the occasional person comes in ragging on the banking industry. It's like sorry, these rules/regulations are in place for a reason and believe me I don't want to fill out the paperwork as much as you don't want to take the time to give me the info I need. I'm sorry you had to deal with that jerk.

Wow! What a crappy human being! He was obviously not a stable person and his behavior was irrational and out of line to begin with. I totally sympathize, I have been a manager and had to deal with the Bat Sh*t Crazies myself. It is usually best to keep the crazy focused on the company's policy and not make it about the customer or you personally. When you brought up your right to make a living, all you did was re-focus the guys' crazy lazer on you instead of the company policy. This can be dangerous when dealing with this level of crazy (I had a coworker who was almost physically assaulted over this kind of thing). Please watch out for this guy in the future!

You're right and almost as soon as I said it I thought I shouldn't have gone there. I am really not a confrontrational person either, but he just kept sitting there and saying those things I couldn't keep quiet any longer. I really try hard not to lose my cool but today for some reason I went off the edge. I can tell you though the minute they talk about my baby, it's all on.
