I had a growth ultrasound today, but didn't see the doc. The tech took a bunch of measurements, told me the head was measuring at 39 weeks, the leg bone at 38 weeks 6 days, but then she paused and said the abdomen was measuring quite small. She got me to shift positions and took three measurements of it, but the biggest one was just 30 weeks. I asked her a couple times if it was something to worry about and she said "I don't know, but I'll have the doctor answer that".
Well, the doctor wasn't available and our appointment was late in the day. They told me she had our file and would call tomorrow. I was feeling great about the ultrasound, but then I started googling what small abdomen could mean and it says "placental insufficiency".
Now I'm a little worried.
My other babies had big bellies, so this is new to me.
I really hope everything is okay. ![]()
Re: Would you be worried? Abdomen measuring behind
Just wait to hear from the doctor. Bub was measuring behind with his abdomen last scan but the doc wasn't worried. Basically the placental insufficiency *can* mean that if baby isn't getting enough "food" that the nutrients will go to the brain first because that's the most important part to grow, that's why the abdomen might be small.
Your doc will look at the results and if (s)he's at all concerned they'll prob book you for another scan in exactly 14 days and compare the 2, check for growth etc. that's what my u/s tech told me. She thought I'd be booking in but as I said, doc wasn't worried and neither was midwife. I'm measuring to dates externally too.
Try not to worry till you hear back. And also, if it is placental insufficiency, it's not too big a deal, it's easily looked after. ( not to make it sound trivial or anything )
