DH and I are thinking of buying DD a toddler bed for Christmas. Obviously we would wait before we could even start using it (I think I read 15 months+). And that way we wouldn't have to buy ALL new set of furniture for the next LO, and just transfer DD's crib to the now not so spare room. What have you ladies done? And how did it work/do you wish you would have done it differently?

Re: Toddler bed or two cribs?
DS1 went into a twin bed at 13.5 months with a rail on one side and the wall on the other. It worked perfectly. We plan on moving DS2 in with DS1 in January when he'll be 15 months old. He is getting a matching twin bed like big brother. I would not do anything differently. DS1 was having a hard time in the crib and loves having more room. DS2 is starting to do what ds1 did in the crib so I'm pretty sure he'll be happy to have more room too.
For us, we didn't go the toddler bed route b/c we didn't want another thing that we'd have to transition from. It jsut worked better for us to go straight to the twin bed.
It really depends on your child.
We put DD in a toddler bed at 15 months and she did great. Like PP, we actually would have gone directly to a twin bed, but we were getting one from a family member and they weren't ready for us to have it when we needed it.
This time around DS1 is no where near ready for a toddler or twin bed. I doubt he would stay in it. We wound up buying another crib. I got a great deal for one - it's nothing fancy, but it will do the job and we didn't spend much at all.
ours are 18 m apart and we went with 2 cribs. I like them contained as long as we can. It was nice knowing it the mid of the night that if he woke up he couldnt get out and wonder around the house. we moved him at 2.5 and it worked great but now he gets out of bed a lot in the am.
We got a $180 graco crib for DD. She is 17 months and not even close to having no crib. for #3 we'll move her when she is a litle over 2 and then the baby will be in our room for 4 months at least.
my boys are 15 months apart and there is no way ds1 would have been ready at 15 months for a toddler bed.. We did switch him about 18 or 19 months when he was showing signs of climbing out of the bed. We converted his bed to the daybed/toddler bed and then we had all the furniture already for ds2 (spareroom furniture) so just bought a crib that converts for ds2.
it really depends upon your kids; we didn't decide what we were doing until we found out the gender of #2; and judged if ds1 would be ready; which we didn't think he was.
2nd crib = best money we ever spent.
I preferred to enjoy my time with the infant knowing the toddler was contained and safe.
I'm also in the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" camp when it comes to sleep.
If a crib is working well and safe (not trying to climb out) my advice is to stick with it as long as humanly possible. It will make your life a whole lot easier with 2 to chase after and tend to.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.
DD is still in her crib and will stay there until she learns how to climb out (or if that doesn't happen, maybe around age 3?) She has shown no desire to have a bed and it's so great having her contained still. Plus, both kids have cribs that convert to toddler beds, then full-size beds, so we're done buying furniture.
That being said, some of her friends have been in beds since 18 months so it does work for some kids.

Absolutely 100000% this. Second crib was best money ever spent. #2 is still in his crib and we won't move him until we absolutely have to. Once we do, we'll do the same as we did for #1 and go straight from the crib to a twin mattress directly on the floor. No toddler beds for us.
