Breast pump score

I just found a Medela pump in style at a thrift store for 15 bucks!! It looks like it's never really been used. I'm so excited!!

I will be buying new tubing and accessories for it though. Does anyone know the best/cheapest place to buy that kind of stuff?

Re: Breast pump score

  • The hospital gave me a new pack of all that stuff for their medela pump I used at the hospital, otherwise I would check on line.

Oooh really?! I didn't think I would be pumping at the hospital...Does everyone usually pump some while they're there?

This is the link to finding a supplier in your area.

We struggled with DD latching on right away so the hospital had me pump so that my supply would get started coming in while we worked on it. I mostly got colostrum the days we were in the hospital but they gave her that in a bottle. I was happy she got that vs. just starting on formula to supplement her.

I also got a new pack at the hospital! Yes, they will want you to express as much colostrum/milk as possible so they can have their lactation consultant help you to the best of their ability. I HIGHLY recommend taking advantage of the hospital grade pump (I have Medela hands free---LOVE) because it will whip your breasts/nipples into shape before the baby needs to start eating. You'll be able to figure out how much you're producing by pumping before hand, though the real milk production usually starts a couple days after baby comes. You can rent the hospital pump too! Good luck!

That makes sense. I will try to ask about this at my next appointment or maybe hospital tour...Thanks:)

  • You can also buy the parts at CVS, and with a coupon save a lot (if you don't get the parts at the hospital.)

Thanks Ava! I'll remember CVS if I can't get them from the hospital. My goal is cheap or free:)

  • It's not safe to buy this pump used. This is an open system and milk can back up into the motor. So that could have potentially happened with this pump and new tubing doesn't change that.
