  • Congrats to you on a natural birth! Especially in a hospital setting where it can be more difficult to stay natural. Yay for you and baby!! This is my hope!!!

  • With my first, yes.  The pain was never overwhelming and even though pushing was my least favorite part, it wasn't because it was painful I just couldn't get the hang of it with them coaching me.  My second, well that's a different story :)

  • So happy you had such a great birth!  I had pitocin and non stop contractions, and mine was exhausting and hard.  I wasn't screaming but the f word came out a few times.  I delivered two preemie girls (very healthy girls!) and felt I did what i needed to do.  I hear pitocin is like labor on crack, I have nothing else to compare it to, and opted for an epi the second time.  I don't plan on needing to be induced, so I guess we will see.  I do plan on not turning down the meds if needed, but hope to go as natural as possible.

  • Awesome!  Congratulations!  And to answer your question, it wasn't as bad as I was expecting either.  In fact when I started to feel pressure I thought, 'no way am I fully dilated' but I was.

  • I went all natural in a hospital too. My entire L & D was 6 1/2 hrs from start to finish. The nurses were so impressed with how well I did and couldn't believe that I was smiling as I was pushing. I was just so excited and happy that I was about to meet my daughter that I couldn't stop smiling.

  • Granted, I had my baby at 26 weeks, but the labor experience was super easy for me, too.  I had what I thought were hip pains / round ligament pains for a few hours, but I didn't think anything of them.  Then, at 9p, I had a bit of spotting, so I drove myself to the hospital.  Got there at 9:30, and I was 4cm dilated by the time they checked me.  Dilated to 6cm 15 minutes later, and my son was born at 11:38.  Crowning hurt, but nothing else did.

I suppose it would be worse with a full-sized baby, but my mom had very similar labor stories.  3 hours with me (I'm the oldest), and she was 8cm dilated when she was checked the first time.  They didn't think she'd make it to the hospital with my younger sister, but that labor was only about 2 hours.  And, she made it to the hospital for that one.  :-)

  • I felt like this too! I kept thinking "Oh this must just be the beginning" and then my water broke and I felt like the baby was going to come out (we were still at home). I got to the hospital and was 8cm and DS was born an hour later. I never once felt like I'd need medication for any of it. Glad to hear others had similar experiences!

  • Throughout my pregnancy I was somewhat "fearful" about labor but I went natural just as I had planned. I was full term and my labor was about 5-6 hours. I had my son on the first push and my water never broke, he came out enclosed in the amniotic sac completely filled with amniotic fluid.

  • Definitely not. My mom and sister have both had 4 kids and for both of them their longest labor was 8 hours. I fully expected to follow the "trend". Labor with DS was 30 hours. A definite surprise...

  • No.  My labor was 40 hours long, all back labor and I pushed for 3.5 hours...and then I also tore horribly.  LOL

Despite all that I will still do it again...in fact I will in a couple of months.

    Congrats!

  • Yes, I'd say I was surprised! I was coping so well and the pain was so bearable that I really assumed I was not very far along. I didn't demand that my midwife come the first time I called her, and I listened to her advice that I get in the tub to regulate my contractions more. When I started telling my husband that I wanted an epidural, and didn't want a homebirth anymore, I had NO CLUE I was in transition. My water broke and baby crowned right after that, and my midwife managed to get to my house just as my husband was catching the baby, and that was after 15 minutes of using everything in me to NOT push. So yeah, surprised about sums it up. ;)
