Just curious to see other may moms opinions:
1. NIP? With or without cover? At restaurants? Other people's dinner tables? Friends/Families homes vs your own? Who are you comfortable nursing in front of?
2. When did/do you plan on weaning and why?

I'll go first
1. I NIP with or without a cover depending on the situation. I have NIP at restaurants with family and friends (even DH's uncle) with a cover. I usually wear two shirts and pull one up and one down so there's nothing to see. Other people's homes I will NIP with a cover without asking first or leaving the room. I don't nurse at other people's dinner tables (not saying she was wrong to- just me) unless I am sure they are okay with it. I nurse in front of my MIL with no cover as she is here a lot and was a nurse and is totally okay with it (she even gives him a kiss on the forehead goodbye while I nurse sometimes). There is no one I will not nurse in front of (with a cover or feeling covered by my shirts).
2. I plan on letting Xander self-wean. I have to go back to work in 4 months (I took my leave early) so my plan is to nurse on evenings and weekends if my supply continues. If he was still nursing at 2, I would probably start "don't offer don't refuse" and when he starts JK at age 4 I would probably want him weaned- mostly for fear that other kids would mock him. I have a feeling he will wean long before that, but I can't picture myself saying no if he asks- I feel like my boobs are magical right now: they get him to sleep, if he falls and hurts himself they make him feel better. They just provide so much comfort.
1. Everywhere with a cover unless its just my hubs or mom or a few others. If someone feels squeamish I cover up and I'm always covered up in front of other men.
2. As long as she'll let me nurse. Within reason. I don't think she'll let me go much longer honestly.

i nurse pretty much everywhere. without a cover but i'm pretty adept at things and i'm usually wearing a cardigan or a zip up or something so my belly's not hanging out (i'm more self-concious about someone seeing side-pooch from my belly, lol).
ds totally self-weaned by about a week after he turned two (we were only nursing before bed at that point). i'll probably just let dd do whatever she wants too (theoretically. i'm not actually sure i could swing nursing a kid much older than two, but it's hard to tell since i haven't really had to make that decision).
1. I NIP without a cover, but I'm still kind of terrible at it. Haha. I don't nurse around people that I know often, just because I think it'd make them feel awkward and in turn make me feel awkward. However, I think as I get more comfortable with NIP (better at latching on discreetly and keeping DD focused) this will change.
2. I have no set plan for weaning. My goal is a year, but I'd really like to make it to two years if at all possible. I don't think I'll arbitrarily force weaning on DD at one or two years though; we'll just see how it goes.

1. Everywhere and I like PP, I usually wear two shirts, one up and one down so you don't see anything. If I am at home with certain family and friends, I just whip it out.
2. I hope he goes at least one year. I'm torn because I'd love to actively TTC now but that's just not possible with EBF. We'll see how it goes. I'd be fine with bed time nursing up until 2 years.

1. Yes without a cover and any place my son needs to eat. I obviously make sure I am covered (blanket or my blouse/sweater). With first DD I didn't nurse in front of anyone mainly because I am large breasted, however this time (and with the expertise of 19 months with DD) I do it when he's hungry. It works nearly every time.
2. I have considered trying to get 12 months, so 6 more to go. DD stopped BFing at 19 months, it was time. She didn't like ANY bottles, so that is why it was at 19 months. With DS, he takes the bottle with BM so much easier than DD.
1. I've never used a cover when NIP. Sometimes I will throw a blanket or sweater over my shoulder, but not over the baby's head. I've nursed in a zillion different places and in front of pretty much everyone. I have small boobs so it makes it easier to breastfeed without flashing everyone.
2. Not sure. I weaned my daughter at close to 2.5 years, but I was pregnant, so we might have gone longer otherwise. I'm not planning to get pregnant again in the next few years so we will just play it by ear. I liked nursing my toddler and will probably do it again with this one.
1) I've been nursing everywhere since we started going out the first week. I don't use a cover anymore. I will admit I don't nurse RIGHT in front of my FIL or BIL because I know it makes them uncomfortable - but I don't leave the room, I just make sure I'm turned away.
2) For now, the plan is to let weaning happen naturally. For some babies that happens shortly after 1, but for most I think it's between 2 and 3. I'm fine with that - it's a great way to calm a kid down, it's a great way to get a kid to go to sleep, the immune system benefits are great, and it's still a nutritious food beyond the infant stage. If it really was dragging out to 5, I would probably be getting tired of it and then it would no longer be beneficial to us both - but that's a call I want to make for my own family, not one I plan to really base on the clutching of pearls of strangers.

1. Yes, with cover. At restaurants, not at other people's dinner tables although I did this weekend. Friends homes and my own. I'm not comfortable nursing in front of FIL, but that's about it.
2. I plan to start weaning around 15 months if she hasn't started herself, definitely want to be fully weaned before 2. That's just the age limit I'm comfortable with, I think she should be drinking cow's milk soon after 1 and nursing is a bit inconvenient for me.
1. I NIP where ever I need to. I don't see the problem with it. I've never left a place because I felt I couldn't feed him there.
I wear 2 shirts like PP, but I still use a blanket to cover up in public only because DS likes to unlatch and look around a couple of times during nursing which leaves my nipple exposed. I feel like I should protect my nipple modesty
2. I'm not sure when I will start weaning. I think I am going to introduce some formula in January just so DH can help out more. We want to start TTC when DS is a year old so that might factor into it as well. I'm not ready to give up the first feed in the morning anytime soon. That's my favorite time.

1. I NIP, with a cover if there are men around and sometimes without if I am just with my female friends or family. My LO is really wiggly and pops off to look around many times while nursing so I like to have my cover. I won't nurse at the dinner table while I am eating, just too difficult for me but I might move off to the couch nearby if its available.
2. My goal is to make it to one year but if he wants to still nurse in the evenings past that I will probably continue.

I do nurse in public without a cover. Sometimes I will cover up with a blanket, other times just my shirt is covering me. I have done it in restaurants but not at other peoples dinner tables. I have done it in friends and families homes usually with a blanket covering unless I am in a room by myself or with not many people. I am comfortable nursing in front of anyone and nursing openly without covering up at all in front of my husband and mother and I did once in front of my one sister in law.
I plan on BFing until at least one year. I have come this far. Whats another 5 months? That is whats best for DD and by then she will be able to have cows milk. If she wants to nurse longer than a year if its less often than it is now I will be fine with that.

I'll NIP with a cover, I'm more comfortable that way. I'll nurse anywhere I need to, I don't care, my baby's got to eat! I'll nurse in front of everyone, but some friends I know are still weirded out by it so I'll let them know and give them an out instead of making them uncomfortable.
2. When did/do you plan on weaning and why?
I'm going to let DD wean herself. I've been doing a lot of research into when mammals wean their young in the wild, and when tribal cultures wean. Apparently I'm turning into a hippie. So, she'll wean herself when ever she's good and ready.

1- I nurse almost anywhere and everywhere. If I'm nursing out the top of my shirt I'll cover up with the sling or use the ergo hood. I'm usually very discrete. I have nursed at restaurants and had no one notice. I have nursed at other people's dinner tables and people have nursed at mine. I nursed during a friend's wedding ceremony, and I'm sure she'd be happy to know, she's a LLL leader and IBCLC.
2- A weaned at about 2 1/4, she only stopped because I was ~18 weeks pregnant and my milk disappeared. I was really ready for her to wean then anyway. I'm not planning on nursing much past 2.5, if she stops before then that's OK with me.
1. I'm painfully self-conscious about my body, so no. I don't NIP. If we're out and I need to nurse him, I will do it in the car. I used to use a cover, but he doesn't go for that anymore so I make do without. I also don't nurse in front of company at our house, especially now that he fights the cover. I'll feed him privately in my bedroom instead.
2. My answer changes the longer I BF. Honestly, I don't know. I definitely want to stop pumping at a year, but I have a feeling he may want to keep nursing at night. I'm not sure how long I'll feel comfortable doing it. Right now I'm thinking 18 months, but given that when I was pregnant I thought I'd wean at a 6 months and that changed to a year and now 18 months.... I'll probably end up being the lady BFing my 5 year old kid.
since having LO, my self consciousness about my boobs have definitely disappeared. I nurse everywhere. if it's outdoors, a restaurant, whatever..i nurse with a cover. If we're at home, at a friends house, at my in laws, i just nurse. I have done it in front of friends, (nobody has ever said they were uncomfortable) and i have nursed in front of my own parents, my in-laws, all without a cover. It's the most natural thing in the world, feeding my child, so i don't feel the need to cover up. We carry on conversations, eating, whatever as I nurse.
i'm going to let my LO determine this 2nd question. I love BF'ing and as long as my LO still wants to, i will let him. (within reason...hopefully by the time he's 2, he won't be wanting to nurse anymore! lol)
