I'm starting shots on Friday, and was curious about other's experiences with them. Both with the shot itself (I've heard big needle, eek) and with any side effects. TIA!

The only side effect I've had is itchiness around the inject site. To calm your nerves about the big needle, I would just not look at it. That's what I do! Good luck!
The injection site is sore for a few days....and I find myself really itchy..all over. I get my shot on Monday and by Wed/Thurs I am absolutely crazy and crying at the drop of a hat/moody. (Birth control does the same thing to me though) By Sunday/Monday I am feeling good again and then it's time for another shot and I am nuts again. ;-)

I just had my 2nd shot yesterday and haven't had any side effects so far. I haven't noticed any pain/itching at the injection site. The needle hasn't bothered me any. Good luck!!
I haven't had the Makena brand, but just had my second round of the progesterone compound (I think they're the same). The first time, I noticed stinging around the injection site for the rest of the day, but I was also doing a lot of walking that day, so it made it worse.
I agree with PP, it can make your already swinging hormones go into overdrive. Prepare your significant other for a bumpy ride.
If you get a good nurse, the needle shouldn't be a problem. I barely felt it with my nurse.
I have had P17 since 16 weeks and it just makes me really itchy all over so I take Zyrtec as needed and it gets rid of the itchiness.

I received my 21st and last 17P shot today. The only side effects I've had were in the beginning I had bad headaches the evening of the shot and then pain for 2-3 days after the shot. The stick of the needle and the meds burn but its tolerable. I have also noticed a little bit of a mood change that might be related but could be pregnancy hormones. This is the second pregnancy I've had this shot through and the last time the only side effects I had were injection site pain, this time around the headaches were bad, but I took tylenol about an hr before I received the shot and that really helped.
