Giving tree advice

DD1's daycare does a giving tree.  I let DD pick the ornaments (they put stickers on paper cut out ornaments) and ended up with a 7 year old boy who wants legos and a 4 year old girl who wants anything princesses.

I figure the legos will be easy, but I could use help with the 4 year old girl.

I try to spend around $30.  What do you think of these choices?

Crayons for the coloring book - does a four year old need washables? would markers be better?

Thanks!

DD1 is 3, DD2 is 1.

Re: Giving tree advice

  • First off.. yay for doing a Giving Tree gift!   I'm involved in our church's program and there are literally 800! gifts requested this year.. .crazy.

In this situation, I always try to buy inexpensively so I can get "more stuff."  I love the little tiara and wand set.. maybe you can add the feather boa and other fun dress-up stuff to it.   I'm kind of "meh" about the Melissa and Doug thingy.

As for the coloring book, I think washables would be appreciated by the parent!

  • DD has a similar M&D set she got a bit ago and while she loves princesses, never plays with it now.  Check the disneystore.com sale ones -- there are some princess dolls that are on sale dirt cheap and you might be able to find a free shipping code by googling disneystore.com coupon codes.  Like the coloring book though.

ETA:  yep, they have some of the princess barbie size dolls for $8.50 a piece.

  • DS has the boys equivalent of the Mellisa and Doug item, likes it, but only gets to play with it sporadically as it has small parts.  (DD would eat them in a minute.) I will say that at 3 years old, it only holds his attention for about 10-15 min. That may be age, being a boy, etc.  As for crayons, what about dry erase ones and a dry erase coloring book?  That's what were giving the older kids at daycare, and you may be able to get both for under $10.  For legos, lots of coupons for them at target.com, to help your giving dollars go a little further.
