i've heard that there is a correlation with when your mom delivered and when you deliver. i was on time so i'm thinking i'll be on time-ish.
does anybody know if there is any kind of paternal effect? DH's mom delivered 3 weeks early with her kids and i'm just wondering whether that'll have an effect on our daughter.
Re: genetic influence on your delivery date
I've actually heard the opposite regarding the timing of delivery (but have heard there may be a correlation to the length of labor). My mom was 2 weeks late with me and 9 days early with my sister. My MIL was right around on time for all 3 of her kids.
I hope the thing about length of labor is true though - my mom had easy, quick labors with both of us (her labor with me - her first - was less than 7 hours from start to finish)
LCT - 5.15.14 ~ 9lbs, 22.5 inches
I don't think there's any correlation at all.
I know my own mother went early with one of her pregnancies, and late with another, so which would I 'inherit'?
There are so many factors that can impact when you deliver, but I really don't think genetics is one of them.
I don't know about timing, but did ask my dr today if there was any correlation between mother's birth/labor experience and daughter's. My mother had quick labors even with her first, so I'm hoping. The dr said there's a possiblity but it's inconclusive -- i.e. I can hope, but not bet on it
Good luck!
I think your genetics will take after your blood related side of the family, not the side that impregnanted you. Edit to add: And if there are genetic factors, I think there are many other factors that come into play as well. If genetics did play a role though, they would not come from your husbands side as you are not blood related to those people.
My doctor asked me how it was for my mom and the other women in my family, she did not ask about my husbands family at all.
I'm not sure scientifically... But I'm playing the card that this is true.
My mom was 14 days late with each of her children (3). My MIL had planned c-sections with both her children and doesn't see why I'm okay with still being pregnant (at 36 weeks). In my mind I'd always go late since my mom did---even though I'd be really happy with any time LO is ready after 37 weeks.
My MIL suggested at 35 weeks I drink mineral oil to "get that baby out". A-isn't mineral oil toxic??? I've always heard about other oils.
So I have no clue if it counts. But I informed my MIL that I would be delievering late because of genetics. It shut her up! lol.
My mom had us all on our due dates and had a complete hell for a first labor complete with posterior presentation and 3rd and 4th degree tears.
I had DS 3 weeks early and had an easy labor with the correct fetal positioning and no tears.
I don't think there's a correlation, at least not in my case.
Breastfeeding and pregnant!
I don't think genetics have anything to do with it.
My Mom had 4 kids - 5 weeks early, 4 weeks early, 2 weeks early and 1 week early - in that order. All natural, easy deliveries.
My sister went 2 weeks late with her first and ended up with a c-section, and had 2 scheduled repeat c-sections following that.
My MIL had all 3 of her kids about a week early and natural. And her daughters both went late and had c-sections with their kids.
My FIL must have read that somewhere too. He swears that since my DH and BIL were both C-sections that I need to schedule one because it will be the same. Apparently how my mom had kids has no effect, but how my mil did is super important... CRAZY.
I dont really buy into it. My mom had it different with each of the 4 kids. They also say stretch marks are genetic. My mom had them on her stomach right away and I have yet to get any. So I think its an old wives tale... but that's just me.
I heard there wasn't any correlation, however I kept telling myself there was! Both me and my brother were about 2 weeks early. My mom's labor with me was long and they ended up having to use the forceps to get me out b/c I was sunny side up. However, my brother was nearly born in the car on the way to the hospital!
My MIL went to her EDD with both boys, I think she said they were both born about a day or two after the EDD.
Harry was about 4 weeks early, so maybe there is a genetic disposition since my mom had us early too, but looking back on everything I think it had more to do with my PIH/pre-e (some paperwork says I had pre-e, some says it was PIH) and Harry wasn't growing anymore so he just knew he had to come out since it wasn't safe in there anymore.

I have also only heard about correlation in length of delivery/labor, not the timing.
For what it's worth, my grandmother's two labors for her kids were both under 5 hours. For my mother, I was 6 hours and my brother was 4 hours. The dates they delivered before and past their due date varied widely between themselves and the child (1st born vs 2nd born).
