  • Travel DVDs?  We bought the entire Rick Steves series a while back... we like to watch it and plan future trips or relive old ones.

ditto this - we got my dad a 'scrip to newsweek last year that he really liked.

does he like to watch movies?  maybe a netflix subscription?  we did that one year too.

  • Don't know your budget, but maybe an e-reader?  He can read while he travels and download newspapers.  My dad saw ours last weekend and has asked for one for Christmas because it travels easier and he can make the font bigger. Personally, I love my Nook Color and DH loves his Kindle Fire.

  • My dad is into politics as well and he put the following items on his Christmas wishlist a few years ago:

    John Adams series (DVD)

The Debate on the Constitution (book)

    The Quotable Founding Fathers (book)

    Harvard Business Review (mag subscription)

    Weekly Standard (mag subscription)

Amazon also has a good list of popular political-themed books:

That's what I was thinking. I have a friend who really loves The Economist for it's perspective on things.

  • I dont know your budget but maybe a Siriusxm satellite subscription? You would have to buy the radio too but he could listen to any news channel (CNN, Fox news etc.) and several politically based stations while he is on the road. Plus the added bonus of hundreds of different music station and even a book channel.
  • I'm thinking about some sort of device charger for my dad, who also travels frequently.  I saw this one recommended on m s n b c just today..
