Cross-store Registry

So I was thinking...what if we want clothes or things that are less mainstream merchandise?  I was thinking of compiling a list of various items we would like on a webpage of our own.  This listing would include links to items at BRU/wherever, but be supplemented with things from Etsy or other retailers.

(i.e.  Bass Pro Shops has this mounted plush moose or deer head that I desperately want for our junior mancave nursery if it's a boy)

I just read another Mom-to-be saying they would like rockabilly-styled kids clothes.  That's super-specific, but the kind of things that really excite parents that shoppers have no hope of finding if your registry is limited to the one store.

The only catch is finding a way to mark it as "purchased" to avoid duplicates.  I bet I could find an HTML checkbox, though.  Then again, it wouldn't be automatically indicated.  Shoppers would have to check it manually...hassle and unreliable.

Putting yourself in the shoes of someone attending a baby shower, would you have any oppositions to such a list?

Re: Cross-store Registry

  • You should just set up a universal registry through Amazon.  It puts a little button on your toolbar that you can use to add items from other sites.

ETA: Here is a link for you.

    mind blown, off to investigate.

  • A friend of mine used https://www.giftsandlists.com/Default.aspx for her registry. That way she could compile what she wanted from different stores and have it all on one registry. It worked out great. You could see what people had already bought for her, and what she still needed and she wasn't stuck with just one store.

It also looks like Amazon lists can have things added from any website too, but I haven't figured out how to do that yet. It has a button you can add to your tool bar, but I couldn't get it to work for me. That might be worth checking out.

  • I used myregistry.com with DD1-same concept.  You pick from every website and compile your own list.  Happy shopping!

  • There's a website called mywishlist or something...it does that.

Also, have you seen the faux taxidermy?  I saw it at the Queen Bee Market in San Diego in August....let me find the shop for you https://www.etsy.com/shop/MisfitMenagerie

  • I wish I would have know about those other options and then maybe I wouldnt be having the trouble that I am. As someone whos has gone to a lot of showers I would love a list like that. I hate having to buy the gen. babies r us and target stuff!
  • We did a universal registry through Amazon for our wedding.  It worked great!  It's great to be able to have things from all different stores all together.  And if they buy it using the link on your Amazon registry, it will show up on there as purchased.  You could also have a separate registry at a place like Babies R Us for people who prefer to buy things in person, and then have the Amazon Universal one for stuff from the rest of the Internet.  For our wedding we had an Amazon registry, and one at Bed Bath and Beyond and people bought from the registries about evenly.  Some will like to shop in a store and some will like the opportunity to get something more unique online.

I was just going to suggest this. My bff is getting married in January and registered at Amazon and also did a traditional BB&B registry for those who actually want to shop in store. I'd suggest doing one of each!
