How about a little TMI? re: Fairy Cork

So, I know I could Google this but I'd rather have some real-life experience from some people I "know" almost IRL.

Fairy Cork:  does it all come out at once?  Within a day?  Over a couple days, but constant?  A little here, a little there over several days?  Does it just depend?

I had my first internal (36wk appt) last Wednesday morning (1cm, 70% effaced at that time), and Doc told me if I spotted that afternoon it was because of the exam.  I didn't.  Thursday night (so, a day and a half later), I passed a marble sized glob of CM tinged with blood on the toilet paper.  The next day, another, smaller with no blood, glob of CM on the toilet paper.  Sat-Sun-Mon, nothing.  This morning, went to restroom and there was a bit (like the size of a paper clip - sorry, I'm in my office and that's my only frame of reference!) of blood tinged CM in my panties.  Then just a little CM when I wiped, but no tinge of blood.  All in all, I'm certain that what I've passed so far is not enough to be the entire FC but I was just wondering if it could be the start of it?  Or does it usually all come out at once and this is just a fluke?

In other news, I'm having a lot of painless, mostly irregular contractions, that started out to be all across my belly.  But in the past week or so they have been getting stronger and moving more into my lower abdomen, and pretty uncomfortable but still not painful.  I can talk/walk through them, etc.  And (today) they are far apart, like more than 20-30min.  Last night while grocery shopping, they were much closer, like 10min or less, but they stopped when I stopped grocery shopping.

Whaddya think?  Baby soon?  Or should I just quit over-analyzing everything and get on with my life?   Surprise

  • The day DD was born, I got out of bed and passed a giant blob that looked like about 4 eggwhites.  She was born nine hours later.

If I remember, the weeks preceeding, I had some ctx and some spotting/mucus.

  • i wouldnt put much more thought into the fairy cork theory, sorry. i was leaving blobs of mine all over town for about three weeks and had zero contractions. i was dilated at 4 for two weeks and 5 for a week, so maybe that had something to do with it. but honestly, the fairy cork just made me anxious b/c i kept thinking labor was coming and it wasnt.

i would take a nice walk tonight when you get home, maybe that will get your contractions going more regularly.

  • I didn't lose mine until well into labor (which was a great disappointment as I didn't get to see it and I love gross stuff) but I have heard lots of people with stories like yours. I think you're probably dilating/effacing so stuff is coming out. It definitely sounds like your body is getting ready! How exciting!!

That made me LOL!  And I was thinking the same thing about dilating/effacing.  Thanks Boxer, in my head I know it's way early and truth be told I'd rather wait until at least next week at the earliest for him to come (lots of stuff planned this weekend), so I plan to amp up the walking on Monday!  I just never had ANY progress or cx with DS and had to be induced at 40w4d, so it's a little more exciting this time!
