Had an appointment yesterday with the midwife instead of the OB.
I am horrible with numbers so I don't remember exactly. I know my top number was 149. I want to say my bottom number was around 80 but I can't remember exact number. Nurse said that it was elevated but still considered in the "normal range". She said "high" would be considered at 150. I'm one number off. Let me just say that even in labor with my first two children my blood pressure never budged.
When I was talking to hubby last night he started freaking out saying that he was put on BP meds when his was lower than that.
Over the last couple of weeks I've noticed swelling but in the last week I've noticed LOTS of swelling in my feet (like my ankles swell over my shoes) and my face and my hands to the point that I haven't been able to wear my rings in two days. I never had swelling with my first two babies.
My questions are:
1. I know it's normal to have swelling but what is normal and what isn't?
2. At what point do I worry about the blood pressure?
3. They didn't mention anything about protien in my urine so should I assume I'm not at risk for pre-e?
Re: Blood pressure question.
I think it will also depend on what your bp is normally...but at 140/90 my docs were concerned...it got as high as 150/100 at one point...I was induced b/c of it at 36 weeks (and also my platelets were dropping and I was developing pre-e)
I would call your doc and ask what they recommend...I would think they would want you to rest as much as possible (modified bedrest) and drink plenty of fluids...my bp and swelling started around 32 weeks...GL!
I second all of this. My BP was normal (110/80 or lower), especially on bedrest, throughout my whole pregnancy. I didn't have any swelling except in my finger. MY BP started to rise around 35w, and when it got to 148/90 at an appt at 36w4d, my dr. sent me the hospital to deliver. They didn't want to risk it getting any higher. I was also starting to spill proteins but not a lot. I'd definitely call to speak to your doctor.
I don't think you should be too worried yet, but I would call the Dr and ask if you can come in sometime in the next week or so just to check your BP. Typically, they worry more about the diastolic (bottom number) than the systolic. I don't think 149 is terribly high, but it is definitely something to keep an eye on.
I have a cuff at home and monitor my BP myself. You might want to consider getting one for peace of mind, and to make sure you aren't falsely elevated at the Dr (whitecoat syndrome). For my OB, the "danger zone" was 160/100, and I was instructed to go to the hospital if it was that high when laying on my left side.
Also, if you do end up being diagnosed with PIH, be aware that for some, it gets worse after delivery. I was back in the hospital a week after having the twins because my BP skyrocketed to 195/114. Scariest moment of my life. This isn't typical by any means, but it is something that should be closely monitored even after the babies come.
