when did you get nursery ready?

I feel like I'm going to be behind if I don't get started like right now.  I want to be done with registering and getting the rooms ready while I can still help out but i dont want to do it too early.  We were going to register this weekend after we hopefully find out the sexes this week.  Is enough time?  Also, when would you rec having your shower?  I know I don't want to be huge, but i also dont want to have it too early.

thanks :)

Re: when did you get nursery ready?

  • we will be starting the nursery after we move into our new house Nov. 30th.

I think this weekend would be perfect for you to register. I think I was around 16 weeks when we did this. Just make sure to take your time and if you get tired go 'test' the gliders.

My shower is this weekend, I will be 26 weeks. You will want to have your shower before you are 28 weeks. The further along you get the less you will enjoy it b/c of how uncomfortable you get.

  • I actually didn't really start working on the girls nursery until after they were born.  We moved into our new home and I was on hospital bedrest a week later.  DH painted, bought curtains, etc while I was on bedrest.  After my girls came home, they slept in bassinets in our room for a month or two.  During that time we purchased the cribs, put everything together, decorated, etc.
  • We've started the nursery..picked out paint swatches and ordered the furniture. Waiting to find out sexes on the 26th to buy the paint. I had already decided the theme which can go either boys/girls/both depending on what they are. We are registering the end of November.

My first shower is 12/17 and I have another 2/8. Have your showers when YOU feel comfortable having them. ;)

  • i think i started registering at 16 weeks. we painted the nursery at 19ish weeks, i think. had my showers at 24 and 25 weeks, and had them mostly done (two cribs we used for storage until we separated them at 3 months) by the time i was 30 weeks. i was hospitalized at 32 weeks, and they came home at about 35 weeks gestation.

    hope that helps! :)

  • We started the nursery early, but we had an amnio so the sexes were confirmed much earlier than normal, probably by 13 weeks, and we registered and started the nursery right after that.   We had my shower when I was 27 weeks, which seems a bit early, but we needed to schedule it bewteen Thanksgiving and Christmas, so we had some limitations with the timing of it, but it worked out well. I do remember the nursery being done when I had my shower because we showed people the nursery that day!
  • That's enough time.

We found out the sexes at 19 weeks, we stripped the wall paper in the nursery right around that time.  Bought the cribs around 22 weeks or so, and painted around that time.

I had my shower at 26 weeks, and that was good timing.  The concensus on the board from past posts seems to be to have it before 28 weeks or so.

  • we ordered the nursery furniture when I was about 16 weeks, painted and changed the outlets, etc at about 25 weeks. Shower was at 28 weeks.  IT's been about 1 1/2 weeks now since we have most stuff in place - furniture is in, curatins are hung, most clothes from the shower are washed and away...  now it's just a matter of doing the dcorative stuff like mobiles and pictures, etc...   good luck!
  • We just finished painting the girls room last week. This past weekend we put the cribs together and picked up our dresser.

My shower is this weekend (I will be 27 weeks). I was advised that I should have it by 28 weeks.

We registered the weekend after we found out what we were having.

    Best of luck, and enjoy!!

  • We registered around 16 weeks, and I had my shower around 25 weeks. I thought it was a perfect time for the shower because I wasn't too big and uncomfortable yet, and it gave us enough time to go out and buy the things we still needed afterwards!

The nursery we started as soon as we found out the sex (around 18 weeks). I wanted to be able to be involved in anything so didn't want to leave it too late when I may be on bedrest etc.

  • I didn't get to it.  I was on bedrest when it was painted and then I was admitted.  They put everything together, washed and hung clothes and put cribs together all while I was gone.
  • I painted after my m/c earlier this year and not even pg - therapy huh?

    Registered at 21 weeks.

    Shower at 28 weeks

Ordered cribs at 24 weeks (but they were in stock and delivered 2 weeks later)

Put together cribs and dresser at 30 weeks.

Washed everything except clothes last weekend 32 weeks.

We're pretty much done with everything but installing the carseats.  Now I get to sit here and wait.  I'm really lucky I haven't had complications or been put on bedrest yet (knock on wood).

  • We didnt start until I was 23 weeks. I wanted to start sooner, but we were having company stay with us for a weekend and I wanted to wait until they have come and gone. Our house was a wreck while moving rooms around and getting things together.
