Exercise Poll

Have any of you altered your exercise routine since you found out? I usually go to a really bouncy high energy aerobics class on Mondays but I am nervous going today because I don't want to rattle anything! What exercises do you find are the safest and most effective while pregnant? Thanks!

Re: Exercise Poll

  • My first pregnancy my doctor told me I could continue any workouts I was already doing-this consisted of running 2-3 times per week (3-6 miles each time), biking, and doing yoga. Hot yoga was a no.

This time around I'm still doing the same stuff and hope to add in a bootcamp class.

  • You can do anything that your body is already used to. With the exception of any ab workout. That is a big no no also you need to try to keep your body temperature at a "normal" temp, so no sweat suits, sauna or excessively hot places

  • I too was told the first time to continue what I was doing (light weights, jogging, etc.) As long as I stayed hydrated and listened to my body/didn't over exert, I was good. I am still running now with this pregnancy, and keeping up with my normal 4x a week routine.

  • I love working out and take classes at the gym 4-5 times a week. I know that it's totally fine to keep up with what you were doing before but I am in the same boat as you.. I'm scared I'll rattle something too! I just get nervous because it's still so early and this is my first.

Since I've found out I have only done yoga which I am happy with at the moment since stretching and relaxing at this point is good.

  • I am still going to the gym but just taking it a little more easy. I do a lot of classes and are a bit of an overachiever and competitive so trying to adjust to not doing so much and over exerting.  However working out is a must as for the past week I have been so hungry and eating all the time. If I don't exercise I will be HUGE very soon! 5 extra lbs on my 115lb body is a lot

  • I'm doing the elliptical.  Before I was pregnant I was doing it at a run pace, but today I took it as more of a walk.  I'm worried it would cause to much of a jerking motion to do it like before.

  • I plan to continue light aerobics and some light weights (nothing concerning back/abs, just arms).   Although the past 3 days I've been so damn tired that I have had no motivation to go to the gym. :(
  • I'm taking it easy until I'm more in the clear and it's driving me crazy! I love to work out! I know it won't cause a mc but my OB recommended against it for a few weeks given my history.

  • I have been taking it much easier too! I took a really long walk with my two pups this morning. I just want to be safe until I talk to my doctor. My first appointment is next monday and I really cannot wait! Big Smile
