I want to have a home-birth (I really feel uncomfortable in hospitals), but I just called my insurance company to see if they cover it and they said no, but they do cover birth in a birthing center. When I asked them for a list of birthing centers, they said they don't have one. How helpful!
Anyone know of any birthing centers in NJ?
Re: birthing centers in NJ? (copied from aug 2012 board)
Unfortunately, I don't think there are any in New Jersey -- or least I couldn't find one despite all my Googling.
Where in NJ are you located? There are a few in Pennsylvania and New York. I used the one inside of St. Luke's Roosevelt in Manhattan, although I will point out that they're incredibly strict about who can and can't use it and I spent my entire pregnancy worried I'd "risk out."
Again I don't know where you are. I'm in SJ. We used and are using again, Elmer Hospital in SJ. It's a unique situation. They relocated regular maternity over to the new regional hospital in Vineland, so they revamped Elmer's maternity wing basically like a birthing center. They are super natural friendly but can still do c-section if necessary on site. Best of both worlds as far as I'm concerned. It's about a 40 minute drive for me from Deptford (Philly Metro).
After a lot of searching, I think it's an insurance thing in NJ. I'm not aware of any real birthing centers in our part of the state.. Maybe Princeton area. They may be more open minded there.
Not a birthing center, but this midwife practice uses Mountainside Hospital and claims that the hospital follows a midwife care model.
