3rd Trimester

Anyone induced and ended up having a c-section?

I am being induced Thursday December 1 and I was wondering how many, if any of you were induced and then it ended up being a c section in the end?

I was induced with my second, but only needed cervadil didn't need pitocin and looks like this time I might need it.

 Thanks Ladies.

Re: Anyone induced and ended up having a c-section?

  • I wasn't induced, my water broke. But they started me on pitocin after 8 hrs of non-consistent contractions and I was only 2cm. 12 hrs later I ended up with a C for failure to progress (I was stuck at 8cm for 4 hrs).

  • I want to add that I've had friends who've been induced and ended with Cs and I have friends who had successful vaginal births after being induced. It really depends on the situation, i guess?! Good luck!

  • My water broke but labor didn't start so I was induced from there.  Had cervadil at night, pitocin the whole next day, and never progressed past a 2 in 32 hours of labor.  Needless to say, ended up with a c-section.

Change this to 12 hours and Lucky and I had the same experience....

  • I was induced at 41 weeks with DS and after 22 hours of labor (4 cm) I had a c-section due to FTP. I was not a good candidate for an induction though, no dilation prior and first baby, so with you already having a had a baby maybe it will go better for you! Good luck!

  • Several rounds of pit. Cyotex sp? and cervidel... 48 hours later no baby...

I was only 34 weeks so that could have been why..

  • This exactly (except for the water breaking), down to the hours and cm. I was induced due to post-term.

  • With DD, I went in for a scheduled induction, but I had progressed to 3-4cm on my own, so instead of giving me cervadil or pitocin, they broke my water right away. In my honest opinion, that set into motion a lot of unnecessary things, and I ended up with a C-section.

I am praying that I will be successful at a VBAC this time around!

  • I was 10 days overdue when I was sent in to be induced. They gave me cervidil and then 24 hours later, nothing happened so they did another one. They only had me wait 8hrs to see if anything had changed --again nothing had so I was told that I could either try another dose of cervidil or c-section .....at this point, my DH and I were so anxious to meet our LO and being 11 days overdue in July---c-section it was.
  • I was induced with my first at 37 weeks and after 29 hrs of labor I ended with an emergancy c-section. I don't know that this would have happened if I would have been closer to my due date as you are! I just think my body wasn't ready yet!

This was supposed to quote EveryName... but somehow it didn't quote her text.

  • ::raises hand::  I was 38 weeks with first baby and she failed multiple NST's. I had made no progress before the induction so the baby had no plans of going anywhere.  Cervadil/pitocin and 23 hours of laboring and only getting to 5cm, my heart rate was escalating and baby's BP kept dropping so they took me in for c-section.  GL, sounds like you've already had one successful induction!

  • I was induced with #1 at 41w3d. Was only a fingertip dilated at that point, and did two rounds of cervidil. OB did a stretch and sweep about 8 hrs after last cervidil, and my water broke 1/2 hr later. But went from no noticeable contrax to really strong ones every 1 min, and DS's HR kept decelling, so it was on to c/s since I was still only 3cm at that point.

  • Yup, induced at 41 weeks with cervadil, then put on pitocin.  After 24 hours and 3 sad little centimeters I had a c section.  (Her heart rate kept dropping.) She was 9lbs and I'm very petite, (and my Mom had all 3 of her children cesarian), so I was not shocked at the outcome.

I should mention that I was showing no signs of dilation or effacement prior to being induced and they told me I had "a very long birth canal".

  • I was induced with my first baby. I was a few days past my due date. I got all the way to 10cm. I was given cervadil and pitocin   but the baby was face up (in the wrong position)  so after pushing awhile I had to have a c section

    Good luck
