When do they learn how to smile normal?

When we tell DD to smile for pictures now, this is what we get.

How long before we get her pretty, natural smile back?

Dear Bump: You suck.

Re: When do they learn how to smile normal?

  • Ha! IDK, but I kinda like the fake cheese she has going on here.

  • Don't use "smile!" or "cheese!" because it naturally elicits strange faces.

Audrey says "eeeeee" when we're brushing her teeth and we ask her to show everyone how she brushes when we need to force a smile out of her.  So far it is the most natural thing we've got.

But, personally, I'm a huge fan of the "third grade smile."  I think they're awesome.  Smile

  • We are juuuuuust now getting there at 4 1/2 years old.
  • My niece is five and it is just beginning to get normal again.
We have so much time, and so little to do! Strike that, reverse it.

  • Well it isn't at 3-almost-4-years old! :) Ben still smiles like A is in that picture.
  • At least she is smiling. Mine has stopped smiling for pictures. The only way we get one is by tickling him. I think MMT's idea is good though, I will try asking him to show me his teeth. Mostly I think he is just not wanting to cooperate for pictures.

This picture will be funny to look back on though!

  • Elena is 6 and still struggles with good smiles for pictures.

For the girls I usually just have to get inventive to get good smiles.  My fave natural smile of Elena ever was when she, at 4, had a crush on a boy in her class.  We got pictures done at Picture People and I told the photographer to ask Elena about Henry.  Best. Smiles. Ever.

I find myself hoping that both girls would have boy crushes just so I could get great picture smiles again...

  • We still get the wacky smiles too.  We've had some luck by telling her "Don't smile.  Don't you let a smile out for the camera...etc."

Mostly, we just hope for the best.  :-)

  • This cheesy grin is news to me, but that picture is awesome!! Everyone, including A looks beautiful.
  • We tell DD to laugh- that usually works!
