Pittsburgh Babies

Sewickley Hospital

I am having my first baby there. Due in Feb Smile. I am just wondering if anyone else has gone there and if they liked it there. Were they nice?

Re: Sewickley Hospital

  • I am (probably) giving birth to my first in Sewickly as well! :) It would be neat if someone else on the boards had something to say about the place--I have some friends in the area who have given birth, but they've all been at Magee or Allegheny General.

  • I'm due 12/2 and I'm delivering at Sewickley.  Once she arrives and we're settled, I'll come back here and let you know how the whole thing goes.  So far things are hopefully.  Been taking their classes & the place looks nice, the nurses have been great and the babies in the nursery look happy (and sleepy :)).

  • thank you so much! i would love to hear how your experience goes. Good luck with everything!! Smile
  • Hi Ladies,

I had my first at Sewickley in 2010 and will be having my second there too.  Are you all with Premier Women's Heath too?

I loved the hospital.  It's not a huge maternity ward, but I think that's what made it excellent.  There were (at most) only 5 other births that happened within a day of mine.  It was a very calm and quiet place to birth and recover.  My husband felt the same way.  I felt very well looked after and very important.  The nurses were all nice and my anesthesiologist was awesome.  I had natural childbirth and everything went great.

I would recommend taking the tour of the facility.  I think they give one about every month.

Hope this helps and please ask me if you're curious about anything that I didn't say.

  • Thank you!

yep im with Premier Women's Health too! I really like it there.

That's what I like about it being small but still a great place to go. I need to find out when the next tour is my due date is coming quick so I better go soon! Smile

  • just a little side note.

I tripped and fell this weekend and we went into the ER/maternity just to be checked to make sure everything was ok (larger feet + curbs = face plant).  The staff in both units were amazing.   Called premium's number and got to talk to doc within 5 mins.  ER took care of my face & hand, and then maternity monitored me with a NST.  LO was awake and alert and everything was absolutely fine.  I loved the nurses they were great.   Feeling much better about delivery, which is fastly approaching.

  • I loved giving birth at Sewickley.  I had both babies there (Jan 2010 and May 2011).  Both were great experiences.  I was induced the first time around and went into labor naturally the second.  And I have not one complaint.  I have actually heard bad things about Magees, so I think you have made a good choice at Sewickley.  Also, Premier Women's Health Drs are amazing!  I had Dr. Fouss start both my labors and Santerini delivered my 1st and Labuta my 2nd.  I think they all did an amazing job and made me feel super comfortable!

Good Luck, and if you ever need any advice, just PM me! :)

  • thank you! I am feeling really great about choosing these doctors. they have been great so far. I think i have met them all now and i have no complaints about any of them!! Now if i can get over being so nervous about the pain!!! it will be worth it though!
  • that is scary but i am glad everything worked for you! i fell about 3 weeks ago. Right on my tush! i did not go to the dr though since it was just a little fall and i had no pain. i am feeling much better about it too! I think they are great doctors we are in good hands!
  • ok, i'm following up now that my LO finally decided to make her appearance.  My original due date was 12/2, she became an outside baby on 12/13.  I had originally had my induction scheduled for the morning of the 14th.  I went into labor on the 12th.

I will start by saying that the entire experience was amazing.  I love the entire staff at Sewickley and would recommend them to anyone.   it was a quiet day when i delivered and they only had one other delivery that day.  i was in labor for 20 hours.  They only let me go that long becuase there was no stress to me or the baby.  I did have an epidural and the doc was amazing.  I was experiencing terrible back labor and not only did the epidural help but the staff made sure to help me maintain being pain free through the labor.   After 20 hrs, i was only dialated to 9 cm, so it was recommended to have c-section.  The entire staff for the c-section was incredible.  It took 30 minutes from the time the decision was made to when she was delivered.   Everyone was kind and gentle and talked both me and my husband through the entire process.

Recovery was great, i stayed the recommended 3 days and was able to learn important FTM stuff from the staff.   All of the nurses were great to talk with and genuinely cared about their jobs and their patiences.  I felt like a person and not just a filled bed.  The nursery staff did a great job to take care of LO while I was trying to recovery from surgery.  Everyday the doctors and the peditrician stopped in and checked on me and on LO.  We were given a report on her status and mine.

I understand that everyone's experience is different and we were very lucky to have a great surgery for me and a very healthy child.  But I will say having a baby at Sewickley was a great overall experience and I can't say enough nice things about it.
