Maternity Coat

Does anyone have suggestions where I can buy a WARM maternity coat? I've looked at motherhood and their coats seemed kinda thin and just not my style. I looked online at old navy and the only one that seems kinda warm is a SHINY  puffy coat.... Um... I really don't want to wear something shiny if I'm putting on the pounds. I also checked out target and they also had a few pea coats but they also seemed thin. When I was preg with DD I had borrowed a Gap down coat from my friend...and that was awesome.. but gap doesn't sell it anymore. Any other suggestions? I've also checked out e bay and don't see much there either. Or maybe does anyone know of any maternity consignment shops in SYR or ROC or surrounding areas?

Re: Maternity Coat

  • What size are you?  I have a wool pea coat from Gap Maternity, I think it's a large, although it might be a medium.  You're more than welcome to have it, it's just taking up space in my closet right now!

Oh, and congrats!  I didn't even notice your ticker!

I usually wear a small.. but I think the coat I had borrowed from my friend was a medium. Thank ya for the congrats.... I still feel in denial I'm pregnant. I keep like forgetting. I feel like baby #2 is already getting shortchanged. I guess that's what happens when your busy with a toddler! It's also so funny how different this OB practice is vs the one we had used  in Poughkeepsie with DD. Ie... here they don't do the 1st tri screening unless your considered at a higher risk. (Which we were so we had to go into Rochester for it). My last office gets you in like as soon as your pregnant... ran my betas... did an ultrasound in office that day... Very different than here. Who did you wind up seeing/delivering with? I'm with Dr Height now... so far I like him. I go for my next appt on Friday.

  • Hmmmm, it might be big.  Let me double check what size it is, although I'm almost positive it's a large.

It is different- I went to a different practice when I had DD, and it was the same thing re: betas, u/s.  It's definitely a different pace, although the practice here did way more monitoring at the end of the pregnancy than my previous practice did.  I had Dr. Clair as my doctor, and Dr. Ahmed delivered Thomas. They were both great. I was nervous about delivering here, but everyone was awesome. Because the practice is smaller, they know who you are.  All the receptionists knew me, when I called in labor Dr. Ahmed knew I was supposed to be induced the next day even though I had never met her, and the nurses who gave me NST's were really excited to see me in labor. (This may have been because I was the 42 week pregnant lady, but who knows.)  Dr. Height did an NST on me because I was having trouble with kick counts, and he remembered me a few days later, really nice guy!

  • I got the Old Navy puffer coat and it was really warm.  But, the version that was available 2 years ago was a matt black...not shiny.  I was concerned about the puff making me me look bigger...but it wasn't actually as puffy as I envisioned.

  • I just got a coat at Walmart for $12 when I was pg. Not maternity, but I bought a 2XL, normally I wear a Sm/med. HTH!

I think I may wind up doing this. I guess I'll just wait until I get big enough that I can't zipper my coat.
