Pregnant after a Loss

Please help a sick pregnant woman out!!!

Ok, ladies, I know all the "tricks of the trade" you read about, hear about, and even your doctor tells you about to help "alleviate" morning sickness.  They don't work. Not this time.  I was NEVER this sick with Logan.  It doesn' help that I hate ginger.  Zofran is not my friend.  And I can't seem to eat breakfast without vomiting.  Crackers make me want to gag (too many?) and so does sprite.  Quite literally, I'm miserable.  I feel like puking every second of every day :(  Sour patch kids have stopped working, crackers make me gag, and I can barely drink anything.  I threw up the tiny bit of water I drank this morning.  I've been sipping on some gatorade -- hoping to stay hydrated.  But too many gulps at once only adds insult to injury to my already unhappy tummy.  ANY IDEAS???  I'm willing to try ANYTHING....accept ginger.  I hate the taste...always have.  Has anyone taken the ginger pills?  I wouldn't have to taste it that way.  I wouldn't trade it for the world if it gets me that much closer to my take-home-baby.  But I just can't catch a break...if it's not m/s, it's acid reflux, or the pinched nerve, or the constipation.  Ha...pregnancy is not sexy - that's for sure ;)  Any input is welcome.

  • The only thing that works for me is if I take my zofran two hours before I get out of bed!!!!! I am still taking it & wish you better luck than me.

I am on 8 mg of zofran

  • As weird as it sounds, for my m/s I ate baked potatoes with butter and sour cream.  Seriously.  It helped A LOT!  That, and toast with peanut butter.  HTH!

  • Freeze the LEMON gatorade in ice cube trays.  It keeps you hydrated but the ice keeps the gag reflex to a minimum!!!  I also had some success with sucking on spearmint altoids.  They were so strong they knocked everything else out.

I was really sick too, I promise.  And mine didn't quit till after 17-18 weeks and every once in a while makes a tremendous return.  The frozen gatorade was the only thing that kept me from being dehydrated.  But honestly I was still sick when trying to eat actual food.

I did manage to keep down xtra salty chic broth a couple of times....But it had to be boulion style b/c if it had and real chick in it I couldn't handle it.....

I hope you find something that helps.

I totally feel you.  You have every right to talk about how you're feeling.  I am so exhausted and the back pain is awful.  I hate complaining about it, but I also hate dealing with it in silence.  First tri I was super nauseous, but not as bad as you...but it is so incredibly exhausting, too.  One thing that helped me was Jolly Ranchers.  Zofran worked for my nausea but made me so constipated it wasn't worth it.  I also felt like Sea Bands helped, but I have no idea if that was physical or psychological.  Good luck lady!!

ETA: As for food fruit and fruit smoothies were really the only thing I could eat.  I made the smoothies with frozen fruit, yogurt, and milk...so at least I was getting some protein.  If anything at any point sounds good EAT IT.  No matter what it is.  (Well unless you have pica...then maybe call your doc!)

  • Thanks girls!  I will try it all.  I was reading B6 is a hit or miss.  But the lemon gatorade ice cubes and fruit smoothies might to it.  I can seem to eat fruit, but I have to eat it slowly.  And I lean more towards tangy/sour -- like lemon water, lemonade, sour apples, ect.  Only problem, sour = acid = bad reflux.  The potatoes with butter is my dinner staple right now :)

And thanks for letting it be ok to vent/complain.  I love my baby, but my baby doesn't like anything I want to eat! lol

My trick to making fruit smoothies was to use greek yogurt. It packs a bigger punch with the protein, and I could definitely tell the days that I didn't have time to make my smoothie in the morning versus the days I did.

Also, don't feel bad for venting and not being 100% thrilled at the moment. Morning sickness is a tough symptom of pregnancy!

  • This is going to sound wacky but have you tried zyrtec? Yes the allergy med. I have been on it for all three pregnancies and it has really helped with the m/s. As far as eating stuff, pretzels or oatmeal with a little sugar. I also ate a lot of peppermint tums. They would always settle my stomach and if I puked, they make it not have that acid burn and icky taste in your throat. Good luck! You have every right to whine. It's miserable being miserable.

  • I swear by ginger candies.  I know you hate ginger, but I have seen flavored candies that still have all of the benefits of ginger.

Check out The Ginger People...  https://www.gingerpeople.com/

They have spicy apple and hot coffee flavors... sound pretty good to me!

I have been enjoying the original chews for a while, but I ordered a variety pack a few days ago and am anxiously awaiting their arrival.  I can let you know how I like them... maybe something like that would help you out.
