Any other Waitress Bumpies?

Hey Ladies,

As you can tell by the Title, I am a waitress. I was just wondering if there was many or any others out there in our group. If so, how are you adapting? How many hours do you work per week and when are you taking mat leave?

I notice I am getting tired much easier and due to our busy restaurant, I do not get breaks unless it is slow. I can tell my boss is getting frustrated that I move a little slower these days but what am I supposed to do. When I get exhausted I sit and eat but some days I just don't have time.

Just hoping there is someone oout there that feels my pain.

 Happy Bun Baking!

  • Me! I only work one day a week. I've been there almost 11 years and have worked through college and whatnot. So luckily nobody gets mad that I'm slow Smile It is way harder now, that's for sure!!!

  • Hi! waitress here too. With my 1st son I was working full time. I had to get a doctors note to allow me to be able to eat whenever I wanted because it was against the rules.  They were really tired of me in the 1st tri because I was so sick all the time, I was worthless at work. But once I got my energy back they  were happy again. I  was able to switch to hostessing in the end of 3rd tri and they gave me a stool to sit on at the hostess stand. I worked up until the  weekend before I was due becuase I didn't want to have to call out if I was in labor.

This pregnancy I only work one day a week, and its a slow night so I do get to sit alot. I seriously don't know how I did it last time!

I always carry a snack of nuts, cheerios, m&ms, or whatever in my apron that I can easily pop in my mouth  while I'm at the computer or in the dish room, etc.

  • I'm a substitute teacher by day, waitress by night/weekend.  I'm usually at school from 7:30-4:15 Mon-Fri, and waitress 2 nights a week from 5-10.  It's killing me!  I have a break in between jobs, even if it is spent in my car.  I also work from 11:00am-8:00pm waiting tables on Sunday (I take Saturdays off).  This has been a rough semester (I'm taking a grad class one night a week, spend my Saturdays doing homework).

BUT---since I'm only subbing this year (thanks budget cuts!), I can take some days off if I choose.  I try not to because not working=no money, and once the baby arrives, I won't be making any $ subbing or serving.  Trying to suck it up while I can, but it gets tougher the further along I get.
