Pregnant after a Loss

Registry Lists

Does anyone have their list on hand of all the essential items to register for?

My bff and sis have been hounding us to go register since they have picked my shower date, but I know DH and I will get in there and have NO idea what we need!

We are going to take my bff who just had her 3rd baby this summer since she's an old pro at what works and doesn't, but I want to make sure we don't forget anything important!  Smile  TIA!

  • I haven't used this site, but I saw someone else recommend it on my BMB. It's blocked from work for me.

  • I don't have a list, but just remember, not everything that worked with your bff's babies will work for yours.  My DS hated being swaddled so I'm really glad I didn't spend a lot on swaddling blankets and Halo sleep sacks, for example.

I would get some advice from other mom's if you know any.

  • I can PM you my registry if you'd like. It has everything but car seat, stroller, and furniture

  • If you are going into BRU or Target, when you go to the desk and tell them you want to set up a registry they will actually give you a color coded peice of cardstock with suggested registry items sepparated by department...

  • Not sure if you're going to BRU but when you setup your registry there they give you a whole book... I didn't really use it b/c I brought a friend to tell me the basics but I did some researching on Lucies list for some of the bigger items.

  • I know that I have found those lists from BRU and Target overwhelming. At least when I registered for our wedding I could look at those lists they give you and determine what I actually needed. The lists for the baby registries at the stores are overwhelming because never having a baby before it is hard to weed through that list and figure out what you actually need, ya know?

If you find a good list, or some good suggestions and such-let me know!

ETA: You are so lucky that you have someone IRL who can help you. I am the first one to have a baby out of my friends, so I definitely feel alone trying to figure it all out!

  • Thanks ladies!!  We are registering at BRU, so it's good to know they will give us something to guide us in the right direction!  Smile

THIS!!!! Not only does she give good recommendations, but she is funny as hell. I also got a list from BRU...I think you can even print a checklist off on their site. Good luck!

  • I did a ton of research online before even stepping foot in BRU, and I started my registry online.

I relied heavily on Lucie's List as PPs mentioned, as well as the Baby Bargains book.  I would have been lost without those things!  I also lurked on the Nurseries and Baby Gear board on TB - and flagged threads on other boards about nice-to-haves vs. have-to-haves.

I used the BRU "list" as a guide and eliminated things I knew I wouldn't be registering for - like wipe warmers, furniture (which we bought ourselves), etc.  I also added a lot of larger items to my registery online ahead of time so that way, when we did go into the store, it was for items like blankets, crib sheets, mattress pads, etc.  We were done the in-store registering in 1.5 hours.

This process was easiest for me b/c I got to focus on one item at a time, rather than being overwhelmed by the zillions of items all at once.

All of this!!  The BRU guide suggests bigger quantities then you need for a lot of items, and they list so many things you really don't need that it can be overwhelming.  Lucie's list and Baby Bargains really narrowed it down for me.

At least you already have your stroller so you can skip that all together!

I agree with this. DD hated the swing, other's love it. She loved the bouncer. Get a few different types of bottles, pacifiers, a playmat, different kinds of diaper rash creams, infants tylenol and gas x, forks, spoons, nursing pillow, blankets (super soft), and diaper bag. People will automatically buy clothes, towels and bibs. So don't register for a bunch of them.
