  • We're watching for a good deal on one too.  DH has said Seagate or Western Digital are generally good brands.  But when you find a deal, you may want to search the specific model.  One of the Seagate ones I was thinking about ended up having bad reviews.

  • I have two from Western Digital, and I have no complaints. No raves either, but I dont know how one would rave about an external HD.

I got mine from best buy

  • I have a seagate one and have no complaints other than I don't need the software that comes with it.

Whatever you do make sure you buy one that is 1T or greater.  There really isn't that much of a price difference and while you probably won't ever use all of it (assuming T isn't saving lots of movies), your H will want it.

  • I use Western Digital as well. No software needed. It's also what my friends use to back up all of their company info.
