F/U to Daycare Present Post

This is the first year we have had to deal with this. What do you generally get for your child's daycare provider?  DD goes to an in-home provider where there is the main person, her husband and two assistants and I'm not sure how to handle the whole holiday gift giving scenario. TIA!

Wow, really?! Is this something that's expected? We are going to a daycare that's already pricey enough - i didn't think of giving the person taking care of DD that big a present - we don't even spend that much on ourselves for christmas!

  • With our in home, we've been giving $100.  Now that DD is in preschool and DS is at an in home, I need to re-evaluate.  I imagine we will give our in home DCP $75 and then $25 to each of DD's three teachers.

I'm not really sure what the "norm" is... I know some people give their nanny one week pay, so I subtracted a bit off of a weeks pay (since we definitely can't afford that...).  I know that an in-home DCP is not a nanny... so, it's not really comparable.

I'm 10-15 minutes late for pick-up like 2-3 times a week.  She never gives me any problems or charges a late fee, even though my kid practically lives at her house (and she has her own family to deal with!)

It's more than we spend on anyone on our gift list, including ourselves and DD.

I don't think that's the norm for centers.  Then again, we will be giving our nanny one week's pay.  It's a lot, but it's SO worth it.  We love DD's nanny.

  • we give cash and sometimes a baked good. our DCP are Jewish, so we give NYs gifts the last day of the year.

didn't your DD just start there? I wouldn't give anything even close to that. Next year, you can be more generous.

I have no idea what we are doing but we are at a center and it'll probably be a gift card to Target or something like that, I would feel weird giving cash to DD's teacher.

  • Guinevere goes to an "in home", which is really just a neighbor - and its just her, and the woman's 2 year old daughter, so she gets constant one on one time.  We are doing one week's pay on a Visa gift card, and also buying a gift for the 2yo - I budgeted $30 for that.
  • I've been budgeting giving one week's pay to our in-home DCP and her assistant, although I'm not sure yet how I'll split the gift between the two of them. That's what I always heard was the norm for in-homes and nannies.

  • Last year we did almost one week's pay for our in home. But he only goes part time, so it's not a huge amount. This year we might do that much plus a Costco membership (she mentioned the other day how much she missed Costco and her eyes lit up when we said we would be happy to pick up anything she needed from there).
  • We have an in-home provider who is really reasonable, so I'm thinking I'll probably give one week's pay to her as a gift. If I went to a pricier day care center, I would probably give less, like a target gift card for $25 or something, but as it is, this lady spends so much one on one time with my child, and is so valuable to us (never gets upset about late drop off/pick up, super easy going and great with the kids in her care) that I think she deserves a great gift.  Like someone above said, I'd probably not spend that amt on anyone else; but she has such an important role in the life of someone who is so important to me! Big Smile
  • We give one weeks pay too (plus we give her kids gifts). Our in-home DCP is AWESOME!

  • We do half a week's pay, but if we could afford it, would totally give one week's pay to our in home DCP.

At the preschool the parents pool money to give gift cards to the teachers, so for that we'll do $25 for each of the girls' (primary) teachers.

Wife, Musician, Fed, WW-er, and Mom of three little kids - not necessarily in that order.
