Zofran ladies - how are you managing the constipation?

Zofran works very well for me for nausea, but the constipation is unbearable.  Stool softeners are not helping.  I just bought some fiber gummies to chew a couple times a day to help move things along.  Can anyone suggest anything else to try?

  • Milk of magnesia.

  • miralax...its safe and my son uses it for his chronic constipartion. You can buy the generic kind too. You mix about 2 t in a something cold and it dissolves, you cant taste it. Do it every day and it helps. It doesnt get absorbed into your system, its glycerin that makes your stools softer.

  • I heard colace is fine. Not sure if you've tried that or not since you said stool softeners haven't been working. Definitely increase your fiber. I've had some constipation but have been able to get by so far.

  • Stool softeners, laxatives and suppositories do nothing for me.  Besides keeping hydrated (which only helps marginally) the ONLY thing that worked last time and this time (or any time I have any issue) is watermelon.  No joke.  I swear by it.

  • I'm taking Zofran 3x a day and suffer with constipation.  I am able to go every other day mostly although I spend a very long time in the bathroom on those days.  I notice that since I added more water and fiber to my diet, it's been better.  I eat an apple every afternoon, and the cereal, Total without the milk.  My dr told me to stay away from milk and juice because they are both constipating.

  • Walking has helped me some. If I can get myself on a treadmill and just walk- nothing fast- for a couple of miles, I have better luck the next day.

  • I have the same problem with Zofran.  I tried prune juice and grape juice.  I was certain it was going to work, but apparently any taste of either sends my nausea into overdrive, and next thing you know I'm hugging the toilet instead of sitting on it again.
