Pregnant after a Loss

Crazy Lady Concern Mentioned

Ok, so far this pregnancy I have gained no weight. In fact, I lost weight in 1st tri and never gained it back. Since then, nothing (which in all honesty made me nervous because I felt like if everything was growing correctly I should be gaining weight). Anyways, I go in this morning and I have gained 3.5 pounds since the last time I weighed myself (which was last week). I'm all for LO growing big and strong and in turn I gain weight along with LO, but is 3.5 pounds too much for one week? I know I am the irrational pregnant lady, but seriously should I be concerned? I know Thanksgiving was last week and the beginning of holiday eating, but I just get really nervous when something unexpected happens during this pregnancy. I'm crazy right?

Re: Crazy Lady Concern Mentioned

  • If you're crazy, then I am too!  I have been pretty pre-occupied with my weight and size since 2nd tri started.  My weight gain was normal during 1st tri, but I was behind from about 14-21 weeks.  Then between 21 and 25, I gained 8 pounds.  As of my appt on Tuesday, I hadn't gained anything since.

I think it is normal to play catch-up after not gaining anything for awhile.  I tell myself I won't worry unless my doctor has a concern, and so far, she hasn't.  You might call and mention the weight jump to your doctor and see if it is enough for him/her to want to check on anything else like swelling or BP.  I've called for things that turned out to be nothing but it is always worth it to hear the official word that everything is okay.

I'm so glad to hear I am not alone! For the longest time, I was obsessed with the fact that I lost a bunch of weight and then concerned because I wasn't gaining anything. Of course my doctor wasn't concerned at all. Now I'm obsessed about the fact that I gained alot in a week lol. Maybe I will call, just to make sure they agree it's nothing.

  • If it were me, I wouldn't be concerned.  Lots of holiday foods are also loaded with sodium, so you may have gained a little and also be retaining some fluids.
