Who saw a chiropractor when they were pregnant?

I've always had back issues but as long as I kept up with yoga and exercise I was completely fine. The past week my back has been killing me and amount of yoga is helping.  I'm miserable.

I found a guy who specializes in maternity and child chiropractic care and I am thinking of making an appointment.

If you saw one when you were pregnant, did it help?  What was your experience?

  • I saw a chiro who specialized in Webster technique during my 3rd tri... Honestly I don't think it helped my back pain much. Certainly didn't flip the babies ;)

  • I saw one and he screwed me up worse than I already was.  But...he didn't specialize in maternity, so maybe that's where I went wrong.

  • Damn, I was hoping for better news.  I'm dying over here.

  • Have you tried a massage? They have been my saving grace from 20 weeks.

I had one in the 2nd tri but I wasn't in this kind of pain at the time.  It didn't really do much for me but maybe I should give it another go.

  • I've seen a chiropractor 2x in this pregnancy and it has helped a TON! But, I was seeing her before I got pregnant. Not sure if that would make a difference or not?

  • I saw my chiropractor regularly throughout my pregnancy, about once/week. It was a HUGE help to me, and I do attribute some of my "ease" of pregnancy and labor to it.
I think the most imporant part is finding a GOOD chiropractor. I have a history of back problems, and my regular chiropractor just so happens to specialize in maternity care.

  • I saw a chiropractor throughout pregnancy too and some weeks it was a miracle! I have chronic lower back problems and it helped keep them in check during pregnancy. But it also really helped my hips and the carpal tunnel I was getting. I kept feeling like I was "hitting the wall" during 3rd tri, and after I'd visit the chiropractor, I felt so much better again. Also, I have some big ice packs that I put on my back while I'm driving, and that helps a lot too. The big stretchy maternity pant panels would help keep it in place.

  • I've been seeing one for my lower back/hips who specializes in pregnancy and some days it has been a lifesaver.  There's a girl there who also massages the muscles around the more painful areas.

There were days where I had so much trouble walking because my hips would dislocate, and after leaving her office I'd feel a million times better and actually be able to walk normally.  I've decreased the amount of times per week I'm going to her now because the pain has seemed to get better over time--I'm assuming because of her!

Good luck! I'm 28 weeks today, and made my appointment for Thursday morning--I am also hoping it helps!
